PUTRAJAYA: Umno MPs some of whom are facing criminal charges, expressed their surprise this morning as veteran politician, DAP leader and former finance minister, Lim Guan Eng, was charged by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission of asking for a bribe in person.
“Guan Eng is accused of soliciting 10% of the contractor profits from construction of the RM6.3bil Penang tunnel, but it’s shocking he didn’t follow standard Malaysian money laundering procedures by asking for it personally,” an experienced politician remarked,
“When you want money, you don’t ask the winner of an open tender over a cappuccino, you set up a charity, solicit political donations, or send one of your son’s playboy school friends to ‘broker the deal,’ which you can later tell the court, ‘was without your knowledge,’”
“Doing your own deals like this is also a slap in the face for so many hardworking proxies, charity owners, middlemen and bag runners, many of whom would appreciate the extra work.”
“LGE has been in politics for many years. It’s surprising after all this time a veteran politician still doesn’t know how Malaysia actually works!”
