Walaupun sidaknya bukan Melayu... tapi bila sidak refer dirik sidak, mesti madah dirik Melayu. Contohnya, mun sidak nak refer dgn kampung sidak, mesti sidak madah.. "kamek diam di kampung sidak melayu nun".. padahal sidak org Melano bah. Sama macam org Kedayan juak. Di Miri area Bakam sia nang rami org Kedayan. Tapi bila aku kelaka dgn driver mek org ya.. nya pun cerita lah "Mun kitak mok tauk, tanah2 sebelah pantei tok semua tanah org Melayu dolok".. padahal aku tauklah nya refer pada org Kedayan.
Sbb aku rasa... sentimen Islam menyebabkan sidak sik mok jadi part of Dayak, walaupun historically, originally.. yes. |

like muntz n d others hv said
dayak is divided into 2
-land dayak (bidayuh)
-sea dayak (iban)
others r orang ulu like
-kayan
-kenyah
-kelabit
-brawan
-lunbawang
-kiput
-penan
while malay ethnic (politically speaking if u like) is divided into
-malay
-melanau
-kedayan
nak tau psl ibans, look for me or cokelat_rawks..
i've grown up in a longhouse for quite some time ago, so yeah..
been living the life myself
even iban itself is divided into many sub-ethnic groups
-rajang ibans
-batang lemanak iban
-the remungans
iban literally means human just like islam means peace
thus, back then (aeons ago kinda then) as long as you r practising the same custom n ritual, u r consider as iban (read, human) since you n i are pretty normal
from wiki (not that reliable but can give u insight)
Although Ibans generally speak a dialect which is mutually intelligible, they can be divided into different branches which are named after the geographical areas where they reside.
Majority of Ibans who live around the Lundu and Samarahan region are called Sebuyaus.
Ibans who settled in areas in Serian district (places like Kampung Lebor, Kampung Tanah Mawang & others) are called Remuns or Remungan. They are the earliest Iban group to migrate to Sarawak.
Ibans who originated from Sri Aman area are called Balaus.
Ibans who come from Betong, Saratok & parts of Sarikei are called Saribas --->if im not mistaken Rentap himself is from saribas region, my mum from Betong btw but shes half chinese & half iban
The Lubok Antu Ibans are classed by anthropologist as Ulu Ai Ibans.
Ibans from Undup are called Undup Ibans. Their dialect is somewhat a cross between the Ulu Ai dialect & the Balau dialect.
Ibans living in areas from Sarikei to Miri are called Rajang Ibans. They are the majority group of the Iban people. They can be found along the Rajang River, Sibu, Kapit, Belaga, Kanowit, Song, Sarikei, Bintangor, Bintulu and Miri. Their dialect is somewhat similar to the Ulu Ai dialect. ---->my dad is from Rajang
In Kalimantan (Indonesian part of Borneo), Iban people are even more diverse. The Kantu, Air Tabun, Semberuang, Sebaru' , Bugau, Mualang & along with many other groups are classed as "Ibanic people" by anthropologist. They can be related to the Iban either by the dialect they speak or their custom, ritual & their way of life.
when i was lil kid, always heard stories bout the brave Kantu ppl...well thats another story
n we normally refer ibans from different region by their sub-ethnic group-whatever-label-it-is like...
"owhhh, urang ari ni bini dom nyak wai?"
"enti enda salah dinga ku, bini ya urang Remungan tungak ka Serian din..."
"bakani tusut adat deh"
"tuai rumah enggau pengulu meh ngadu ka utai nyak"
different sub-ethnic groups of iban normally hv different "operating procedures" to use in cultural events...thats when meetings between the elders (tuai rumah, tuai adat, penghulu) of different regions take place especially when its about inter-marriage btween ibans of different regions....makes life harder if u ask me
barter system is still widely used, at least in my longhouse cuz money doesnt mean 5hit there, and its located somewhere near daro/matu region...bout 1 hr 30 min boat ride from sibu....that was our second longhouse which was made in 1969, pure ironwood, first longhouse was made earlier but i forgot to ask the elders bout it...my grandpa n his siblings came all the way from batang lemanak way back |
