"Liar Game" sequel dated for November

On Thursday, a press conference was held to announce details about the planned "LIAR GAME" sequel. It was first mentioned in April that the popular drama series was getting a second season and feature-length film.
 
Based on a manga by Shinobu Kaitani, "LIAR GAME" originally aired in 2007. Erika Toda starred as an honest young woman who gets involved in a high-stakes game of deception, aided by an expert swindler (Shota Matsuda).
 
The sequel will continue from the first season, with the main cast returning, including Michiko Kichise, Kosuke Suzuki, and Ikkei Watanabe. In the drama, the players will face off in four games and a semifinal round, while the final game will take place in the movie, titled "LIAR GAME: The Final Stage."
Yasutaka Nakata (of capsule) will once again be handling the show's music.
Fuji TV will start airing the drama in November, and the movie will open in theaters in February 2010.

Rinko Kikuchi plays Shota Matsuda's rival in new "Liar Game"
Actress Rinko Kikuchi (28) has been cast in the second season of the hit drama series "LIAR GAME." This is her first regular role in a drama since "Churasan" in 2001.
"Liar Game" stars Erika Toda (21) as an ordinary college student named Nao Kanzaki, and Shota Matsuda (24) as a master swindler named Shinichi Akiyama. They must work together to survive and escape a dangerous game of deception run by a mysterious organization.
Kikuchi plays a new character named Ryo Katsuragi, who does not appear in the original manga that the series is based on. Katsuragi is a former classmate of Akiyama who has become the youngest psychology professor in history at a famous university. She is the only person Akiyama has ever lost to in a battle of wits.
The new season of "LIAR GAME" is airing on Fuji TV at 9:00pm on Tuesday nights. The first episode has been scheduled for November 10. A feature-length film will come after the season's end, opening in theaters on February 6.

Fuji TV produces "Liar Game" spin-off drama

With the second season of the "LIAR GAME" drama series starting next
month, Fuji TV has announced a spin-off of the show that will be available
through the network's online video service Fuji TV On Demand.
Titled "LIAR GAME: Episode 0," the spin-off will reportedly run for
12 episodes, each lasting under two minutes. The story takes place seven
years before all of the show's characters met in the first season. The
protagonist Nao (Erika Toda) will instead be played by Mayuko Fukuda
, while Akiyama (Shota Matsuda) will be played by Yuta Furukawa.
 
The pricing has been set at 105 yen per episode, though a complete package
will be available for 735 yen. The spin-off will begin on October 27.
