Google Doodle Today: is Malayas Independence Day,
Festive air as nation celebrates Hari Raya and National Day

KUALA LUMPUR: From a fisherman named Mohd Merdeka Ismail to the country’s top leaders, Malaysians throughout the country marked Hari Raya with a festive air as they also prepared to celebrate National Day.
While Muslims continued the Hari Raya open house tradition with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah leading the way at Istana Negara, Mohd Merdeka looks forward to his 54th birthday today.
Malaysians also flew the Jalur Gemilang at their homes and shops. One village in Batu Pahat even put up a replica of the National Monument.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak cut a cake in a symbolic act at Seri Perdana to mark the 54th anniversary of independence. (The National Day celebrations will be held on Malaysia Day on Sept 16.)
