Kuching lad Nazrin strikes it perfect in KK

PETALING JAYA: Youngster Nazrin Wagiman (pic) created history when he became the first East Malaysian to strike a perfect game in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo Junior Circuit at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah yesterday.

The 17-year-old student of SMK St Thomas got off to a fiery start in the Sabah leg of the circuit when he fired lines of 300-142-200-138-234-149 for a 1,163 score yesterday. His two-day tally of 2,672 pinfalls put him in fourth place in the Masters qualifier, behind leader and brother Nazriman (2,938), Sabahan Tan Chien Nan (2,867) and Bong Ki How of Sarawak (2,825).

Only the top eight advance to the final stage.

The right-handed Nazrin, who trains under Jackson Ting and Reginald Walter, had won the boys' Graded Masters at the 2005 National Championships and today he will be out to win his first title in the circuit.

The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) secretary Sidney Tung was pleased with Nazrin's first-ever 300-game.

揑t is very encouraging to see juniors striking a perfect game. No one from the East Malaysia have done it and Nazrin's feat is good for the sport,

Bowling: Hard decision for coach Holloway
By : Ajitpal Singh

THE national women抯 bowling team are more than ready to make an impact at the World Championships in Mexico on Aug 28-Sept 10.

This was national coach Holloway Cheah抯 assessment of his charges who made an impact in the recent Czech and San Marino Opens.

However, his biggest problem now is who to drop for the world meet, as all seven women bowlers played above expectations.

"They are 100 per cent ready to win honours for the country at the world meet. Right now all seven are about the same level and capable of making an impact at the event," he said yesterday.

"I wish I can take all seven but the tournament rules say six. So it抯 going to be a tough decision for me.

However, Holloway made it clear that seasoned campaigners Wendy Chai, Esther Cheah and Shalin Zulkifli were sure choices as the trio have been very consistent over the past few years.

"The other three spots will be a toss between four bowlers (Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Zandra Aziela, Choy Poh Lai and Sharon Koh).

"Many may think that Siti Safiyah Amirah will miss the flight but she has an even chance after her performance in Europe.

"Anyway I will be making my recommendations to the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) selection committee on Friday but they will have the final say," he said.

If performance is taken into account, Czech Open champion Zandra and San Marino Open semi-finalist Sharon should make the team while the final spot will be a toss between Poh Lai and Siti Safiyah.
