By Raynore Mering
RAS may not be profitable but it brings far greater returns to Sarawak and Malaysia, says CM
| LAUNCHED: Taib unveils the MASWings logo. Looking on from left are Wong, Jabu, Jala, Dr Chan and Amin. |
| MULU: The rural air service (RAS) may not be a money-making venturebut it is bringing far greater returns to Sarawak and Malaysia as awhole including in terms of human capital.
In putting the RAS in perspective yesterday, Chief Minister PehinSri Abdul Taib Mahmud pointed out that because of thegovernment抯 RAS policy, every Sarawakian now has access tohigher education.
揟he government does not want our rural people to be leftbehind, and because of its RAS policy we can see that we have enabledour people to go for higher education like the MAS (Malaysia Airlines)CEO (Datuk Idris Jala). I am very touched to see a Kelabitthere, |

More dead fish, this time in Kuching
By JACK WONG
KUCHING: Hundreds of fish were found dead in the large man-make lake of the popular Malaysia-China Friendship Park at Jalan Song here.
City South Council workers were shocked to see the dead fish, like ikan kaloi and talapia, floating in the lake.
They took hours to clear the dead fish, some of which weighed more than one kilo, for burial.
Council public relations officer Winnie Lau said the fish could have died of suffocation due to the lack of oxygen in the murky water.
揟he public have fed the fish with buttered bread and other foods, and this might have caused the water to become oily and murky, thereby cutting off the oxygen supply, |

27,481 pendatang haram didakwa
