SHUIB ON SUNDAY: Can't get enough of Siti
http://www.nst.com.my/Current_Ne ... /Article/index_html
YES. I am paying the price of her success. I wanted to give my sister Talhah a Siti Nurhaliza treat by taking her to the Satu: Konsert Ekslusif Siti Nurhaliza at Istana Budaya.
But no, it didn't happen. I called up the ticket call centre, to book two RM80 tickets.
Finished, the guy told me. Ok, now I was willing to fork out RM300 although this would burn a hole in my pocket.
It's worth paying to hear Siti sing. Her vocals are simply amazing. I know.
"Sold out," said the guy. All three days? "I'm sorry, tickets for all three days are sold out," he said emphatically.
It was my fault for leaving things to the eleventh hour but there you are, that's how popular Datuk Siti Nurhaliza is.
Many industry folks have been expressing their grouses over the current economic downturn. Well, there is no downturn for Siti.
Just pass by Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur on Siti Nurhaliza concert days (Friday to Sunday) and don't be surprised if you get caught in a jam.
This will be her eighth solo concert and you can be sure there will be more to come.
The Siti Nurhaliza phenomenon is unbelievable.
Indeed, it is rare that we see a married Malaysian artiste commanding fan attention the way she does.
Then again, Siti is rare. She is the only artiste who has never attended an awards show and left empty-handed!
After Satu, Siti, who has the knack for turning simple melodies such as Biarlah Rahsia, Cindai and Pastikan into chart-toppers, will be working on her next studio album.
Constantly evolving, this time, spiritual songs will be the order of the day.
Apparently, the idea came about while Siti was taking part in an Erma Fatima theatre production, Sirah Junjungan, back in March.
"Spiritual songs give me peace of mind like no other. Even though I only sang one song in the production, it gave me that adrenalin rush when I performed it.
"This will be my first attempt at spiritual songs and I plan to release the album for Ramadan."
Siti's last release was a traditional album called Lantera Timur last year.
One would think that's it for now but not when you are Siti.
Fans of both Siti and Indonesian diva Kris Dayanti will be happy to know that the much-awaited collaboration between the "Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston" of Southeast Asia will be taking place sooner than they think.
The duo will feature in eight duets. Siti will choose four Malaysian compositions while Kris will pick the other four from Indonesia.
The album is scheduled for release by the end of the year.
"Well, Kris is finally on her own and this makes this project possible. I just can't wait for it to happen," said Siti.
And, there is more to come for her.
There is talk of a concert in Dubai, a local TV cooking show where she will host one episode and more TV appearances for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Does that mean she won't have time for "a little Siti"?
"A baby is always on my mind. I just know that He will bless me with it some day."
"I believe that God is the best 'organiser' in these matters."
What are the songs she will be doing at the Satu concert? She's not telling.
"If I tell you, it won't be fun for the fans. Let's keep it a surprise."
Just like how songstress Datuk Sheila Majid raised more than RM1 million for the IJN (National Heart Institute) Foundation last year from her concert, Siti's concert will benefit three charity organisations.
Part of the proceeds of the concert will be channelled to the Yayasan Nurjiwa Foundation which she co-founded with her husband, Datuk Seri Khalid Mohamad Jiwa.
How much will the foundation give to the organisations?
"It all depends on how much the organisations need. We will try to meet their requests."
Now that's Siti with a heart. |
