JAPANESE MAN KEEPS GIRL PRISONER FOR 3 WEEKS
FOR 22 days, he allegedly kept a high school girl prisoner, often handcuffing her to his own wrist or to the steering wheel of his minivan.
The 29-year-old told the police he did it because he 'wanted to be with her'.
But yesterday, the dried fruit street stall vendor from Sakai, Osaka was arrested for the illegal confinement of the 17-year-old girl, reported Manichi Shimbun.
Japanese police said that the man and the schoolgirl had met through a handphone matchmaking site.
They eventually got to know each other when a meeting was set up on 24 Apr.
The fruit seller allegedly 'ordered' the girl, a student at a high school in Ibaraki, Osaka, to fall in love with him.
He allegedly threatened to kill her if she failed to do so, the police said.
The man kept the girl prisoner in his minivan and house until she fled on Sunday night after he'd forced her to work at his fruit stall, the police said.
ESCAPE
She escaped to a nearby police post.
He chased after her, but was arrested and later admitted to police officers that he had been keeping her captive.
The police said that the man would handcuff himself to the girl whenever they were in his home - an apartment which he reportedly shared with his mother and a brother.
The police said that he had forced the girl to send handphone messages to friends and family, telling them that she was fine and not to worry.
However when she stopped sending them messages in early May, her family became worried and filed a missing person's report with the Osaka Prefectural Police. |

SEORANG LAGI WARGA TUA KORBAN FLAT TERBAKAR
Polis masih menyiasat punca kebakaran.

Man dies in Bukit Batok fire. Wife suffers burns. She cries to niece from hospital bed...
I don't want to be alone
THEY were an odd and lonely couple.
Their family and neighbours knew them, but not well.
Their flat was filled with odds and ends that the wife had picked up.
Madam Rohani Jantan was described as being 'like a karung guni' by a relative.
Then on Monday night tragedy struck.
A candle had fallen in the bedroom and started a fire that spread quickly in their flat.
But despite desperate pleas from his wife, Mr Selamat Bakri, 60, continued to remain in their overcrowded Bukit Batok flat.
Neighbours tried hard to put out the flames with buckets of water, but their efforts to save him also ended in vain.
Mr Selamat, who is believed to have been suffering from mental illness, died in the blaze together with the couple's five cats.
Madam Rohani survived and is now warded in hospital, unable to accept the loss of her husband.
She had refused to leave the flat and had to be helped downstairs by neighbours, struggling and shouting for her husband.
At the hospital, the 47-year-old part-time kitchen helper kept asking for her husband, calling out to whoever came near her bed: 'Mana abang saya?' (Abang is a Malay term of endearment for husband.)
Berita Harian reported that she had returned to the flat with a packet of rice for her husband on Monday night. He was then in the bedroom.
She went to the kitchen and when she returned to the bedroom, she found that a candle had fallen and the fire was spreading.
The couple had been living by candlelight for some time as they could not pay their electricity bills.
Madam Rohani never stopped asking for her husband in hospital despite attempts by relatives to calm her.
Finally, someone said softly: 'He's gone.'
Madam Rohani, however, only repeated her question - her voice now rising to a wail.
'He's gone? What do you mean he's gone?'
No one - not three of her late husband's siblings, nor his niece, Madam Lena Sabudin - knew how to respond.
As Madam Lena, 34, later recalled: 'She started getting hysterical. She was crying, she was shouting - she couldn't accept that he was gone.
'She said that she didn't want to be alone. That she didn't want to be parted from her husband.'
Madam Lena, an administrative executive in a property firm, tried to divert her aunt's attention by asking if she had eaten.
Madam Rohani seemed to calm down, and even began showing Madam Lena the burns the fire had left on her left arm and right thigh.
But then, she asked about her husband again.
STAYED CALM
This time, Madam Lena said she had not seen him yet - and Madam Rohani, nodding her head, stayed calm.
Her relatives quickly filed out to prepare for Mr Selamat's funeral.
The couple had been in their three-room Bukit Batok West Avenue 2 flat on the 12th storey when the blaze broke out.
After the Singapore Civil Defence Force put out the flames, Mr Selamat was found dead inside.
Madam Rohani was sent to the National University Hospital. It is understood that she is in stable condition.
Madam Lena told The New Paper that Mr Selamat, who was unemployed, had not been close to his relatives and that she knew little about him.
She did remember some of his unusual ways: He often wandered around the neighbourhood, she said, talking to himself.
As for Madam Rohani, who worked at a food stall, Madam Lena said she liked collecting discarded items like shoes, clothes and mattresses.
Starting some 20 years ago, piles of these items had begun to grow in the flat.
Mr Zainal Zakariya, who lives at the other end of their corridor, said the couple was very poor and had no electricity, often using candles for light.
They sometimes asked Mr Zainal's wife for food, he said, and she would oblige when she could.
After the fire, a utilities bill dated September 2004 was found in the debris, showing that the couple owed $11,413 in arrears, reported The Straits Times.
An SCDF spokesman said that a call about the fire was received at 10.06pm.
The spokesman also commented on an 'excessive storage of furniture and other household items' in the flat, that 'made it difficult for firefighters to manoeuvre within the unit while fighting the fire'.
Madam Lena said that as far as she knew, no one has tried to again tell Madam Rohani the truth about Mr Selamat - who was buried yesterday, at around 3pm, in Pusara Aman Muslim Cemetery at Choa Chu Kang.
Madam Lena said: 'I really pity her. We have to keep her company and find her a place to stay.
'I don't know what she's going to do when she finds out that her husband is really gone.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pails melted in fire
THE fire was so intense that pails used to fight the blaze melted and changed shape, a neighbour said.
Mr Zainal, an operations manager for a pest control company, had heard a loud knock on his door that night.
It was Madam Rohani, who had run out of her burning flat to look for help.
Mr Zainal said: 'I wondered what had happened, my house lights had suddenly gone out. I opened my gate and saw a blazing fire coming out of their window.
'The wife (Madam Rohani), was shouting 'Laki aku, laki aku!' (Malay for 'My man, my man!').'
Many other neighbours were already in the corridor, filling pails of water and flinging them on the flames.
Recalled Mr Zainal: 'The heat was so intense, even the pails changed shape when they got near the fire. The firemen told us to leave the building.'
Madam Lena said that Mr Selamat, her mother's younger brother and the second of seven children, was not close to the family.
Madam Rohani has a daughter from a previous marriage who lives in Malaysia. |

Nudes dressed up in light
Eng Wah signs $5m deal to bring world famous Paris cabaret to S'pore Mervin Tay
[email protected]
COME December, nude women performing in a cabaret show in the heart of Singapore's all-new 24-hour entertainment precinct, Clarke Quay, will no longer be mere wild fantasy.
.
Yesterday, local entertainment company Eng Wah Organization signed a deal with Crazy Horse Paris to bring the world famous cabaret to Singapore.
.
The show celebrates the art of the nude, and its concept is "to paint women's bodies with beautiful lighting and spectacular costumes", said Crazy Horse Paris' managing director Didier Bernard, whose father, Alain, founded the show in 1951.
.
The dancers could be topless at times, and "wearing only a pair of G-strings".
.
"They may be physically nude, but are dressed up in light," he said.
.
The show has been given "in-principle approval" by the local authorities, and has an age limit of 21, said Eng Wah managing director Goh Min Yen. The only other topless show in Singapore is at Neptune Theatre Restaurant, with an age limit of 18.
.
Committing $5 million to this collaboration, Eng Wah will refurbish 3B Clarke Quay into a custom-designed cabaret.
.
The 15,000-sq ft building will include a 400-seat theatre, as well as a bistro and a bar.
.
It will develop and manage the venue and market the cabaret, while creative control like music, choreography and lighting will remain with the Paris-based management team of Crazy Horse.
.
Said Mr Bernard: "We are beginning castings for the Singapore show now and recruiting dancers from Europe |

KES HIV ANGKARA INTERNET BERTAMBAH
Pasangan dijangkiti lepas lakukan seks setelah berkenalan di ruang siber
Oleh
Suryani Omar
HIV menyebabkan penyakit Aids.

GAJI GOLONGAN PENDAPATAN RENDAH NAIK PALING PERLAHAN

RELA DITIDURI DEMI PEROLEHI PERHATIAN
YANG diinginkan hanya perhatian dan kasih sayang. Untuk itu, dia sanggup menggadai maruah dirinya.
Tini (bukan nama sebenar), 14 tahun, rela ditiduri lelaki dua kali usianya.
Menurut Presiden Persatuan Ain, Encik Ramli Puteh, Tini mengenali lelaki itu melalui chatting.
'Mereka bertemu tiga kali sebelum mula mengadakan perhubungan seks.
Dia kini menjalani pemulihan akhlak.
