The on-screen tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo proves itspower on ticket sales once again. Their second movie team up, You Changed My Life, was reported to have raked P18 Million nationwidegross on its opening day alone last February 25 according to Star Cinema Booking and Distribution. This surpasses the P14 Million nationwide opening day gross of A Very Special Love, which premieredlast year.
A Very Special Love’s box office success earned John Lloyd and Sarah the recognition as Box Office King and Queen from the SM Cinema management. The warm reception for their team up gave birth to the idea of having the sequel, You Changed My Life, which was also helmed byAVSL director Cathy Garcia-Molina and produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films. Although it’s still early to say, John Lloyd and Sarah are already projected to claim the Box Office King and Queen title once again this time around for You Changed My Life.
Although there’s a big reason to celebrate, both John Lloyd and Sarah admitted to Showbiz News Ngayon that they’re a bit sad that the whole movie experience is now over. The Pop Star Princess will go on a concert tour in North America this March and April while theaward-winning actor will return to the taping of his hit teleserye I Love Betty La Fea with his ka-love team Bea Alonzo.
Sarah reveals the kind of friend she found in John Lloyd through the course of the shooting of their two films. “In this business madalang makahanap ng taong ipaparamdam sa ‘yo na hindi ka lang basta ka-trabaho. Hindi ka lang babatiin kasi magkatrabaho kayo, papakitaanka ng maganda dahil may nakakakitang ibang tao. Kay John Lloyd nabura‘yung perception na ‘yun. Nagpapasalamat ako kay Lord na binigyan niyaako ng pagkakataong makilala ang isang John Lloyd Cruz.” In this business, you seldom find people who would make you feel that you're not just a co-worker. Only greets you because you're working together, they're just nice to you because there are people around. And with John Lloyd, that perception is erased. I thank the Lord for giving me this chance to know someone like John Lloyd.
On the other hand, John Lloyd talked about what he will miss most about Sarah. “Meron siyang special power. She has this endearing quality tomake people feel very special. Parang magic. Papasok siya ng kwarto andeveryone biglang magla-light up ‘yung face. Instantly lahat nahahawa saaura niya.” She has this special power. She has this endearing quality to make people very special. It's like magic. When she enters a room and everyone's face will light up. They're instantly infected with her aura.

BEA SLIMMING DOWN FOR SAM
A RELIABLEsource told me that Bea Alonzo is trimming down via South Beach diet togive way to her new movie role. The director of the upcoming movie,Direk Laurenti Dyogi, on the other hand confirmed that Bea and SamMilby's movie will push through. Despite their busy schedules they havemanaged to shoot for seven days and Dyogi said that once Bea is donewith I Love Betty La Fea and Sam with his soap with Angel Locsin andsome other commitments, the movie will definitely be shooting on a muchregular basis. For now, there is really no pressure because the movieis set to be shown in summer of 2009 yet.
Meanwhile, aside from the upcoming Pinoy Big Brother Season 3 and amovie from Star Cinema, Direk Laurenti will also be busy with his newproject, a series of romanserye which will replace Parekoy, Monday toFriday on ABS-CBN. |

why is dat?
She was overwhelmed by the number of people who went to watch the movie. From the basement up to the cinemas...it was all covered by the crowd wanting to get in the premiere... They already opened 2 cinemas at the premiere, and still wasn't enough.
Congrats to Sarah, she bagged 6 awards again in 2009 MYX Music Awards.. including the Favorite Soundtrack for the movie "A Very Special Love"

PEP REVIEW: "You changed my life" exceeds expectations!

Every one's biggest question on the night of You Changed My Life premiere: Will the sequel match (if not surpass) the feat of the first John Lloyd Cruz-Sarah Geronimo starrer?
Fans were filled with anticipation. Critics were wielding pressure.
But I entered the cinema, devoid of any expectation.
I just want to watch (andpossibly, enjoy the film). Period. I do not want to spare even a fewminutes comparing You Changed My Life with A Very Special Love. A filmsequel, to me, has usually been a class of its own梕ither it's good ornot so good, and not necessarily, better or worse than the first.
The fans of the Pop Princess clapped their hands when the film beganrolling. About four orfive voices screamed, "We love you, Sarah!!!"
And my thought balloon: "Naku, tila magiging Araneta ang sinehan."
But 20 minutes later, Ifound myself chuckling and laughing with the crowd. After an hour, Inoticed that almost every one in the movie house seemed motionless, with their eyes glued to the screen. And after the final scene came around of applause.
I have two words for the movie: Entertaining and engaging!
And several reasons why it's a movie to beat:
(1) Storytelling is unflawed. Not a single scene out-of-place from start to finish.
It begins with the brisklypaced narration of Laida Magtalas (Sarah)about the milestones of herrelationship with Migs Montenegro (JohnLloyd).
She is an EA (editorialassistant)-turned-AE (account executive) of Bachelor magazine, whereshe met Migs, and she comes from a simple family. He belongs to a richclan, but he has yet to prove his worth to his half-siblings.
They make a nakakakiligpair. They come to work together. They call each other several times ina day, even if one of them is in the middle of a pitch or a meeting. They go home together.
At first, it's sweet and cute, but the "clingy" approach takes its toll on their relationship when Migs was assigned to head the operations of their laundry cleaningfactory in Laguna.
Suddenly, their time together becomes scarce that even sending a text message or picking up a call seem an impossible task for Migs. They try to adjust with the new set-up梩o the point of waking up early or sleeping inside the car. But eventually, the lack of time and immaturity cause their split.
Macoy (Rayver Cruz) is an interesting diversion in the story. He is Laida's kababata, who serves as her taga-hintay, taga-sundo,taga-hatid. He is not a contravida here, but more of a catalyst梙e makes Migs jealous, and towards the end, makes Laida realize one important thing about the meaning of love.
The film shows everything there is about relationships梖rom the sun-shiny days to the turbulent stage to the storm's aftermath.
Story is more mature, but not too serious; romantic, but not sappy; predictable, but very realistic; and pretty comprehensive, but snappy.
(2) Direk Cathy Molina is just full of surprises and avant-garde tactics.
In A Very Special Love, there was the sun dance. This time, she introduces the power hug.
A dance showdown between Migs and Macoy takes the place of the videoke scene in the last movie.
A helicopter ride, fireworks display, heart-shaped balloons,strawberry-filled cakes,Behbeh ring tones are some of the few nakakakilig visual and audiotreats of the movie.
The Star Cinema directorknows exactly when to infuse wit or hilarity or magic into a scene. Sheturns something ridiculous into ridiculously funny. She's veryexploratory and goes beyond the borders.
Some more notes: Hertreatment is effective in conveying the mood andmessage of each scene;there's proper build-up every time the tonechanges; transition issmooth and well-paced.
(3) Sarah Geronimo proves she has that leading lady charm.
First, her team-up with John Lloyd was tried, and obviously, it worked. In You Changed My Life, she was given a few scenes with Rayver, and sparks really flew.
Sarah's spontaneity and artlessness have that effect of letting another person's guard down.Take her tandem with Rayver as an example梚n his previous movies, I sensed a tiny bit of reticence. But with Sarah, it seemed like he dropped his inhibitions.
Acting-wise, she's fairly good, considering that it's only her fourth movie. She showed minimal tendency to overdo her delivery or facial expression, but that's only in about two or three scenes, so I doubt if the viewers even noticed it.
(4) John Lloyd Cruz's portrayal, as expected, is stupendous.
He can be charming, serious, funny, intense梙e's good at evoking an emotional response from the moviegoers. Maaawa ka. Matatawa ka. Maiiniska.Ma-i-in love ka.
One trivial detail I noted though during the onset of the film: He looked a bit haggard. But I dropped that as a minor concern the minute his dad(Dante Rivero) asked him to handle their family business in Laguna. Thejob was truly taxing!
(5) The John Lloyd-Sarah tandem once again raises the kilig bars in cinemas, and does it effortlessly.
Some of their lines are too"scripted" that in real-life, you'll find them as pambobola, or even corny. But there's something so romantically cute bout the way they did the exchange.
A talent manager comments: " arang tambalan nina Nestor de Villa at Nida Blanca noon. Kumportable sila sa isa't-isa, enjoy nila ang mgaeksena..."
(6) I like how the other cast members liven up most situations.
Matet de Leon is her usualprangka character. Joross Gamboa and Gio Alvarez, who usually make a beton how far Laida's relationship with Migs would go, are the alaskador inthe movie.
Rowell Santiago (Migs'sbrother) is still a formidable force in Migs'slife, but in the latterpart, he mellowed. The cool twist to his storyis the entry of MikeeCojuangco (the ex-girlfriend of Rowell'scharacter).
Most of all, I am happy with the ending. Hindi bitin. Hindi pilit. Hindi alanganin.
Don't expect the movie tohave any long-term impact in your life. It's main goals are simple:pakiligin at aliwin ang manonood, and it is successful in doing exactlyjust that.
I entered the cinema without any question in mind, but I left with one梞ay part three kaya?

The victory party of You Changed My Life last Monday night, March 9,turned out to be a very emotional one as Director Cathy Garcia-Molina thanked everyone who made the movie possible, especially those who worked behind the scenes. 揗araming beses na ako umaakyat ng entablado,sa mga presscons or sa premiere night, pero ito ang isang bagay nahindi ko nagagawa. ABS-CBN has always taught us the value ofmeritocracy. And I think I am so guilty because hindi ko siyanaisasabuhay. I failed to thank the people who have helped me finish afilm every time |
