Charts: KinKi Kids, Kumi Koda
Popular duo KinKi Kids extended a world record this week with their 28th single, "Yakusoku." 171,000 units of the CD were sold in its first week, propelling it to #1 on the charts. This further cements their Guinness World Record of having the most consecutive number-one singles starting with the artist's debut. They also have improved their Oricon record of most consecutive years with a number-one single (13).
GReeeeN ranked in at #2, selling 72,000 copies of their new single, "Ayumi." While Junko Akimoto remained on the charts at #3, the rest of the top ten were all new releases: Kazuya Yoshii, Kaela Kimura, Gackt, Miliyah Kato, MUCC, Yui Horie, and Watarirouka Hashiritai.
On the albums chart, Kumi Koda emerged victorious with 253,000 in sales for her seventh release, "TRICK." It is her third consecutive original album to top the charts.
Trailing far behind Koda was Miho Fukuhara at #2 with 45,000 in sales. TERIYAKI BOYZ managed #3 with "Serious Japanese," which is scheduled to get a U.S. release next month. Kiyoharu (#5) and FLOW (#7) also entered the top ten with their new albums.

Meisa Kuroki, Aoi Miyazaki win All Nippon Producers Awards
TOKYO — Actresses Meisa Kuroki, 20, Erika Toda, 20, Aoi Miyazaki, 23, and actors Eita, 26, Shota Matsuda, 23, and Haruma Miura, 18, took out awards for best new performers for their roles in movies released and television dramas aired from December 2007 to November last year at the Elan d’or Awards for 2009. The awards were held by the All Nippon Producers Association in the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku.
Kuroki, who won for her work in Fuji TV’s “Kaze no Garden” or “Garden of Wind” said on receiving the award: “I’ve never been happier. I’ve worked hard on my acting this past year.”
Kuroki is in a relationship with musician KEN, who lives in New York. “I hope he hears about this award,” she said. She also said with a smile that she hadn’t thought about sending KEN chocolates for Valentine’s Day.

Charts: aiko reaches #1 after 11 years

After 11 years as a major label artist, singer-songwriter aiko has finally achieved her first #1 with her 25th single. "milk / Nageki no Kiss" sold over 71,000 copies to give her the victory on the charts this week, beating out new releases from Acid Black Cherry and Morning Musume.
The bottom half of the top ten were all new singles, released by BREAKERZ, FUNKY MONKEY BABYS, BoA, Takashi Kondo (as Kyoya Hibari), and Nana Tanimura.
On the album charts, reunited rockers Unicorn took the #1 spot with "Chambre," selling 159,000 copies. They are only the second group to release a chart-topping album after reuniting, with the first being Kaguyahime in 1978.
UVERworld's latest, "AwakEVE," also did well, selling 116,000 copies to take #2. At #3, BEAT CRUSADERS were far behind. Tomoyasu Hotei and BUCK-TICK also made the top ten, at #5 and #7 respectively.

GReeeeN sings ballad for "ROOKIES" movie
After singing the hit theme song "Kiseki" for the "ROOKIES" drama series, GReeeeN is once again getting a tie-in with the show. Their first true ballad, titled "Haruka," will be used as theme song of the movie version that comes out this spring.
The song is said to be their first one without a rap or hip-hop flavor. No release date has been set for the song yet.
The "ROOKIES" movie opens on May 30.

Oricon: ideal type of daughter
In celebration of Hinamatsuri on March 3rd, Oricon asked 900 men and women (between their twenties and their forties) what type of girl they would want to raise their daughter like, if they had one.
Talento Becky was ranked #1 overall and among the women surveyed. #2 was actress Aoi Miyazaki, who ranked first among the men surveyed.

Narimiya stars in Japan-Hong Kong drama
NHK and Hong Kong broadcaster RTHK have teamed up to produce a two-part television drama titled "Shiawase no Soup wa Ikaga?" The project was first announced in April 2008 and has now been scheduled to air in Japan on March 26-27.
Hiroki Narimiya stars as a young man who becomes tired of his life in Japan and decides to go to Hong Kong. There, he comes across a woman (Annie Liu) and her grandfather (Wu Ma) who run a restaurant specializing in fish ball soup. As the story develops, he too learns the art of making the soup.
The drama was filmed in Hong Kong and Japan last May. The cast also includes Yuen Qiu, Jun Fubuki, and Sansei Shiomi.

Itoh Takahiro in Apparent Suicide
Young actor Itoh Takahiro (photo, left) was recently found dead in his car near Lake Sagami in what police believe was a suicide, they announced yesterday. He was 21. The younger brother of Itoh Atsushi (25, right), he appeared in the popular Fuji TV drama "Densha Otoko," of which his elder brother was the star.
His other appearances included the Fuji drama "Nodame Cantabile" and the movie "Yogisha X no Kenshin." The most recent update to his blog, which he called "My Style My Life," was dated February 22. The entry included photos which showed Takahiro enjoying a high school reunion. He was believed to have been taking a break from any kind of filming this month, and recently wrote in his blog that he was giving up drinking again in an attempt to lose weight.

 Nishikido punca kemalangan
PENYANYI idola J-pop, Nishikido Ryo telah menyebabkan kemalangan kecil di Lebuh Raya Tokyo Metropolitan. Jejaka kacak dan terkenal ini telah melanggar sebuah kereta sewaktu jalan sedang sesak di daerah Ropongi.
Kereta yang dilanggarnya kemudian melanggar kenderaan di hadapan dan menyebabkan kerosakan kecil.
Namun seorang wanita berusia 60 tahun yang berada di dalam kereta tengah telah cedera di leher dan terpaksa dirawat di hospital selama beberapa minggu.
Nishikido kemudian melawat wanita tua tersebut dan meminta maaf atas kemalangan yang terjadi. Nishikido dikatakan memandu seorang diri dan tidak menumpukan perhatian terhadap pemanduannya.

Atsushi Ito's brother found dead
Actor Takahiro Ito, the younger brother of "Densha Otoko" star Atsushi Ito, has passed away, it was learned on Sunday. He was only 21 years old.
Ito was found dead in a parked car near Lake Sagami in the Kanagawa prefecture. Police are currently investigating the death as a suicide.
The actor regularly updated his official blog, but his last post was on February 22. In that entry, he included a photo of him having fun with friends at a high school reunion, and he also mentioned that he was preparing for filming a television drama this month.
Ito entered show business as a child actor back in 1993. His most recent roles included the movie "Yougisha x no Kenshin" and the dramas "Galileo" and "Nodame Cantabile."

Namie Amuro rocks Yokohama with 30 song non-stop show
YOKOHAMA — Singer Namie Amuro, 31, put in a two-and-a-half hour non-stop performance at Yokohama Arena on Sunday night, exciting 10,000 fans with a vast array of dance moves and nine different costumes.
Amuro’s nationwide “BEST FICTION” tour began at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on Oct 25 and will finish at the Morioka Ice Arena in Iwate on May 31. The 60- show tour is expected to draw 450,000 fans and set a new attendance record for a Japanese female solo artist. Her fourth best-of album - “BEST FICTION” - has sold close to 2 million copies.
On Sunday night, Amuro sang songs from that as well as her new single “Wild/Dr.” The single is currently being used by Coca-Cola in its “Wild Health” commercials, and will go on sale March 18.
Amuro will perform in her hometown of Naha for the first time since December 2007, when she heads down to Okinawa for shows on March 21 and 22.
