Star guest in limo drama disputes claims
“It is okay if he could not make it, but why did he tell me to wait and not to leave?’
This is the question Amber Chia is asking after a driver, who was hired to chauffeur her from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to the opening of the Hello Kitty Gourmet Cafe in Sunway Pyramid, failed to show up.
The Sabahan model said upon arriving from Vietnam, she had contacted the driver of a car rental company — Extreme Limousines and Tours Sdn Bhd — who told her to wait for 45 minutes as he had just picked up a client from Kuala Lumpur, but would return to fetch her.
Close to an hour later, Chia said she called again and once more the driver told her to wait for another 45 minutes, and only this time round said an “emergency” was the cause of the delay.
She also claimed that she had called the driver on several other occasions, with him stating that he was either on the way or implying he would be there soon.
Some calls, she added, went unanswered.
“I was stressed because I had promised my client I would be there for the opening, which was initially scheduled for 7.30pm onwards.
“It is my responsibility to be there as I was hired,” she told The Rakyat Post.
Chia, who is the first Asian to campaign for Guess watches, only arrived at the cafe around 9.30pm after she decided to take a taxi to Sunway.
The actress also said when she had called the driver, the latter said he thought Chia was to arrive at 7.30pm.
“However, my personal assistant and client had confirmed with him on my arrival time, which was 6pm.”
Earlier today The Star, in an article entitled “Car rental company lodges police report over ‘hijacked limo-ride'”, quoted a spokesperson from the car company as claiming that the driver was asked to chauffeur Tamil actor Superstar Rajinikanth to a hotel in Kuala Lumpur at about 4pm on Monday.
The driver, however, allegedly told the local representatives of the movie star he had to ferry another client to Selangor, the report said.
The spokesperson was reported to have said that the driver then had his handphone confiscated by the movie star’s local representatives and forced to drive to Malacca.
When this fact was pointed out to Chia, she said:
“He picked up the phone at least three times when I called.”
