137 commuters fined for eating, drinking in MRT
I REFER to the letter 'Take action against those who eat in trains' by Lawrence Poh Ah Kiat (ST, Feb 9).
We take a stern view of commuters who consume food or drink or litter in the SMRT system. We deploy staff to look out for those who flout the rules.
Commuters are liable to be fined up to $500 for eating or drinking, and up to $5,000 for littering under the Rapid Transit Systems Regulations. Last year, 137 commuters were fined for eating or drinking in the SMRT system.
Food remains and litter attract insects and pests, including rats. The rats may damage the control wires, signal cables and affect the reliability of the SMRT system.
As it is not possible for our staff to conduct checks at all times, we appeal to commuters to keep the system clean to ensure a pleasant ride for everyone.

tadi got tis disgusting ang moh pat mrt
i naik mrt, was sitting down. he sat depan me. he tgh baca today paper. ok,i understand certain ppl ada tis habit using air liur utk basahkan the paper so tat easy to flip kan? usuallu they put their finger quickly dlm mulut n flip the paper rite? Itu still ok, understandable tapi ang moh ni he go n lick like the side of the paper whilst holding the paper wif both hands to turn the page. Duno eh..but i was grossed out immediately..so disgusting.. |

Dr blog kwn I..c wat he wrote...
I went home early today, luckily. And as usual, reflecting on the day's routine & happenings, on the train. While I was reflecting, I saw this man leaning against the door. The train was semi crowded. He was holding a bottle of mineral water. He puts his water in his bag and what happen next, makes me lose my appetite (bear in mind, I was fasting). He started digging his nose with his left little finger. I wish I didn't look. I couldn't help but to stare more (The brain needs excitement?). My jaw dropped when he used the same finger to what it seems like cleaning his gums. I could feel my stomach regurgitate. I could puke on that man and then walk away. And then he took his bottle of mineral water, sip it, gargle his (eeeewwww) mouth and swallow it. Walla! Show's over, ladies and gentlemen! |
