No more taking it easy once Rexy抯 new plans take off
By RAJES PAUL

KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no room for slackers once national doubles chief coach Rexy Maina-ky抯 big plans for the future take off.

Rexy wants to create a more competitive environment to add quality in the doubles department, comprising the men, women and mixed players.

In other words, doubles shuttlers can forget about taking it easy during training sessions.

In fact, he will conduct a review every four months to choose the best players for international tournaments.

Besides their commitment, the shuttlers

ISN tp sunyi sepi je..last2 tinggal la chong wei ngan misbun urus sendiri..

lbih2 lgi sekrg ni chong wei da jadi pemain no 1 dunia..makin berat tanggungan dia..org sekeliling da mula bgi harapan besar
kat dia sekrg ni..asyik kena 'push' je..bertambah le pressure dia..mcm org selalu ckp la..
berat mata memandang berat lagi bahu nak memikul...aza rasa dia perlu masa utk pulih dan balik main mcm dulu..

come on Chong wei....you can do it!!!!!!!:pompom: :pompom: :pompom: ...

ni le 'org sekeliling' yg suka push2 tu kan ....
tau le bapak dafi ni dah 'menawarkan' diri tuk jadi calon  .... so skrg ni kena la selalu masuk paper .... kena cari glamour ..baru nampak cam buat kerja

sabar jelah .... aku pun harap dorang bagi masa tuk chongwei pulih so that dia boleh main cam sebelum olimpik ....
harap misbun akan withdraw chongwei dr denmark open ni .....

chongwei ..fighting!!!!! :pompom:

'Misbun kena serah laporan'
Oleh Baharom Bakar
[email protected]

KEMENTERIAN Belia dan Sukan (KBS) tampil menuntut supaya Datuk Misbun Sidek dapat mengemukakan laporan lengkap punca kekalahan Lee Chong Wei dalam dua final berturut-turut Terbuka Jepun dan Macau untuk pihak berkenaan mendapatkan gambaran sebenar.

Alasan masih keletihan kerana gagal menjuarai Terbuka Jepun, bulan lalu mampu diterima tetapi tewas kepada pemain Indonesia yang bukan bertaraf lima bintang, Taufik Hidayat pada perlawanan akhir Terbuka Macau, baru-baru ini mengundang gelisah Menteri Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

"Kita menerima alasan Misbun di atas kekalahan di Terbuka Jepun kerana Chong Wei keletihan selepas Olimpik tetapi alasan kekalahan di Macau sukar diterima. Sebab itu kita mahu Misbun hantar laporan," katanya selepas Majlis Penyampaian Bantuan Memperkasakan Pertubuhan Belia 2008 di Terengganu, semalam.

Chong Wei gets wish for full-time support service team
By RAJES PAUL

KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 1 men’s singles shuttler Lee Chong Wei and his coach Datuk Misbun Sidek walked out smiling after a “surprise” meeting with National Sports Institute (NSI) director general Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara yesterday.

Dr Ramlan, who turned up unannounced at the national badminton team’s training centre yesterday despite still being on Hari Raya leave [wahhhh lamanye beraya ], unveiled big plans on the role of sports science in supporting and strengthening the badminton players in their preparation towards the London Olympic Games in 2012.

He said that there would be more comprehensive support for badminton at different levels from their sports science experts.

For a start, Beijing Olympic Games silver medallist Chong Wei’s wish for a full-time support service team will be realised.

He will be accompanied by a physical trainer, physiotherapist and a mental trainer for the back-to-back Denmark Open (Oct 21-26) and France Open (Oct 28-Nov 2).

On Thursday, Misbun had blamed the lack of support services for Chong Wei’s runner-up finishes in two Open tournaments in Japan and Macau.

Chong Wei had complained of tiredness en route to finishing second in both Opens.

Besides the elite team, Dr Ramlan said that their future plan would enable all badminton players from all levels to enjoy the benefits of sports science.

Besides badminton, two other sports ” archery and cycling ” [lion ...jgn lupa kat aweng kita tu ] will also enjoy maximum support from the NSI.

There will be a special team for the elite players. In badminton, Chong Wei can expect a full-time team to be with him,” said Dr Ramlan.

“We are also looking at having a team for players who consistently reach the semi-finals. And we also want to form a support team for those players who are on the verge of making a breakthrough.

Of course, all this will depend on sensible management of our resources.”[ni yg penting sekali]

Dr Ramlan said he was happy with the outcome of the meeting yesterday.

“It was a productive and cordial meeting. We were able to discuss openly on many matters. The NSI are committed to working together with the BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia), coaches and the players to ensure the success of Malaysian badminton,” he said.

“We explained that we did not send a support team during the Japan and Macau Open because they were not the targeted tournaments. Besides, it was during the holiday season and our personnel were unable to go.[alasan ni cam tak best je ... kalau thomas cup atau olimpik sama tarikh ngan hari raya so dorang pun tak leh gi gak le ]

Often, after the Olympic Games, players take a rest. Despite the need to recover, Chong Wei did well to emerge as runner-up in both tournaments.”

Top singles ace may skip Denmark and France Opens

KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 1 men’s singles shuttler Lee Chong Wei may skip the back-to-back Denmark and France Opens.

The Beijing Olympic Games silver medallist is the top seed for both the Super Series events in Odense (Oct 21-16) and Paris (Oct 28-Nov 2) respectively.

After the Olympics, the world No. 1 Chong Wei had failed to live up to his top billing by losing in the finals of the Japan and Macau Opens to Indonesians Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Taufik Hidayat respectively.

Chong Wei blamed tiredness for both defeats.

Besides the two outings in Europe, Chong Wei has also been entered for the China and Hong Kong Opens next month.

“I told my coach (Misbun Sidek) that I am still tired. Both of us decided that we will give ourselves a few more days in training. I will skip these tournaments if I am still feeling tired,” said Chong Wei after a training session at Stadium Juara in Bukit Juara.

But if I decide to go to Europe, I will skip the China and Hong Kong Opens.”

Yesterday, Chong Wei explained why he chose not to take a break after the Olympics, like China’s Olympic champion Lin Dan did.

“It is normal for a player to take a break after the Olympics but I had other plans although I was tired.

“I wanted to safeguard my world rankings ahead of next year’s World Championships (in India in August),” said Chong Wei.

“I don’t want to be chasing for ranking points at the last minute. I want to make sure that I will be among the top four when I compete in next year’s world meet.”

Chong Wei in a fix
Saturday, 11 October 2008

By : K.M. Boopathy [[email protected]]

LEE Chong Wei's brilliant run in the second part of the Super Series last year is back to haunt him as he has no choice but to compete in at least three more tournaments to consolidate his World No 1 ranking.

Chong Wei, despite not at his best physically, will be competing in the Denmark Open on Oct 21-26, the French Open on Oct 28-Nov 2 and will play in either the China Open (Nov 18-23) or the Hong Kong Open (Nov 25-30).

The Malaysian reached the semi-finals of the Denmark Open, won the French Open before finishing runner-up in the China and Hong Kong Opens, which fetched him high ranking points.

Having finished runner-up in the Japan and Macau Opens, Chong Wei realises he needs to recondition but skipping all four tournaments could well see him dropping out of the top five of the world rankings.

Chong Wei's current total of 84,179 points will be cut to 59,379 points as last year's points are wiped away and with qualification for next year's World Championships in Hyderabad having already started, he doesn't want this to happen.

China's Lin Dan is ranked second with 82,560 and is also set to drop as his first competition after the Olympics will be the China Open, which allows Chong Wei a chance to build a healthy lead.

"I wish I can skip more tournaments so that I can focus on conditioning in order to maintain my performance.

"However, I did very well in the same four tournaments last year and it will cost me dearly if I withdraw from all," said Chong Wei at Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara yesterday.

"I don't mind if I drop a place or two but I will be out of the top five (if I skip all).

"My main target is to challenge Lin Dan when he returns to competition and obviously it is easier to improve my ranking points when he is not around.

"I want to be more selective in picking tournaments next year but I have to make a solid foundation for the World Championships qualification now."

Chong Wei will also face a tougher challenge in Denmark and France as his two other rivals from China -- Bao Chunlai and Chen Jin -- will be competing and will be better prepared compared to the Malaysian.

However, Chong Wei is not too worried as the National Sports Institute (NSI) has already approved his request for physical and mental trainers Rosdie Ghani and Fred Tan to be with him during the European tournaments.

Shuttler Hafiz seeks winning recipe before birth of first child
By RAJES PAUL

KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Mohd Hafiz Hashim is looking forward to the birth of his first child in December.

Before that though, the father-to-be will yet again desperately seek a revival in his badminton career in either the Danish or French Open tournaments.

One upset will do for Hafiz in the ninth and 10th legs of the Super Series, which will be held in Odense (Oct 21-26) and Paris (Oct 28-Nov 2) respectively.

A good showing will be a big reassurance for Hafiz when he plans to start afresh next year.

Unfortunately, the 26-year-old has a tough job on his hand in the Danish Open. Top seeded compatriot Lee Chong Wei is in his path in the second round.

The draw for the French Open will be released tomorrow and Hafiz is keeping his fingers crossed for better luck.

Hafiz admitted that family life had taken him away from badminton more than he expected this year.

揑 want to be there when my first child is born. I certainly do not want to miss that moment. But that means I may not take part in any tournaments in the later part of the year,

Mew Choo: Training gets more and more painful
By RAJES PAUL

KUALA LUMPUR: National num璪er one shuttler Wong Mew Choo (pic) is at the bottom of the pit as far as her confidence level is concerned.

Old injuries are back to haunt her and it is getting tougher by the day as she prepares for the back-to-back Super Series Opens in Denmark (Oct 21-26 in Odense) and France (Oct 28-Nov 2 in Paris).

The 25-year-old Mew Choo is desperately seeking ways to come out of her slump.

The decline in form began after her famous win at the China Open in November last year. She is the first Malaysian and only the second non-China player to win the women抯 singles title.

揑t is going to be almost a year since I won the China Open. But instead of doing even better, my performances has dipped,
