SP Power cut off supplies without notice even though bills were paid on time


   The power and water supplies in my house were cut at noon on August 25 without any notice. My housemate was taking her shower when the water supply was cut off.

On calling SP Power I was told that my account had outstanding balances which were not paid since April. But I have been paying my monthly PUB bills on time by cash. The payments were also reflected in the monthly bills which I received.

SP Power's customer officer told me that their records showed that the last payment was made in April and I must produce all my receipts and monthly statements before the supplies could be reconnected.

The records were faxed to them. A customer service officer then called back to say that the power supply would be reconnected as soon as possible but without giving any date and time when this will be done. No apology was offered for all the inconvenience caused.

I would like an explanation from SP Power.

SP Power cut off electricity supply because of accumulated arrears in payment


   We refer to the letter from Ms Phoebe Chan regarding the disconnection of electricity supply to her premises at Commonwealth Close (ST Online Forum, Aug 29).
Ms Chan claimed that the power and water supplies at her premises were disconnected on August 25. Our records show that only the electricity supply was disconnected due to accumulated billing arrears.

The water supply was not disconnected nor was the flow restricted. For sanitary reasons, we do not disconnect water supply for residential premises.

Ms Chan said the supplies were cut off without notice. Our records show that prior to the disconnection of electricity to the premises, we sent five reminders on May 3, June 2 and 27, August 2 and 15, urging the registered account-holder to make payment to avoid the inconvenience of supply disconnection. We did not receive any response or payment.

Ms Chan stated that her bills were paid on time and payments were reflected in the monthly bills. We did not receive any payment for the last five months. The last payment of $97.25 we received was on March 24. Our copies of the bills from May to August did not reflect any payment.

Contrary to what Ms Chan claimed, our collections officer did not request or receive any fax from Ms Chan regarding proof of the payments she made prior to the disconnection.

We have verified the calls made to our collections officer regarding the disconnection. The first call from Ms Chan at 1.34pm on Aug 25 was regarding the cause of the disconnection.

We then received a call at 1.45pm from a Mr Ong, who claimed to be a co-tenant. Mr Ong was requested to make a partial payment of $250 for the supply reconnection and the balance of the outstanding amount to be paid by September 2.

Mr Ong called again at 2.53pm to provide us with the receipt number for the $250 payment he had just made through the AXS kiosk. Our collections officer informed him that immediate arrangement would be made to reconnect the electricity on the same day between 6pm and 10pm.

Our technician reconnected the electricity supply at 6.55pm the same day.

We hope Ms Chan finds this explanation satisfactory. If she has further queries, she can call me at 62335651 and I would be happy to provide her with more clarification.

cara SP jawab very konfiden la eh, mesti dorang ada bukti semua...
tapi bagus jugak eh SP, dorang potong karen dulu ek, air dorang tak usik

SP pun berhati perut.. bukan nya dia potong suka suka.. after a few months tak bayar, dorang hantar reminder, kalau dapat surat merah ni makna nya kena fine 50 sen.. kalau masih senyap jugak, dorang tampal surat kat pintu rumah.. kasi tahu bila electric kena putus...

at least manusia masih boleh survive without electricity, air susah sikit lah kalau diputuskan..

takde karen ok la, malam duk bawah blok ke, pakai lilin ke......tapi air kena ada eh...at least bleh mandi and minum air

almost every month surat merah SP hantar kat rumah... we no longer pakai GIRO.. so hb yg bayar kat Singpost.. tu yg selalu lambat settle bill.. setakat ni belum pernah kena potong..:bgrin:

tapi pasal surat tampal kat depan pintu tu, jiran akak pernah kena.. tu pun pasal akak kepo nak tahu apsal ada kertas ditampal kat pintu dia.. baca lah cepat cepat...

actually bila SP nak terminate the electricity, they will send a final reminder saying that if there's no payment made within 7 days, SP will not hesitate to terminate the electricity in that house....then dlm surat final reminder tu pun SP ada indicate that to inform SP if there's someone in the household using the life support system...aries tau ni semua cos' jiran MIL penah tunjukkan reminder letter from SP tu pada aries as dia tak faham english.....
