here is the cast for Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, which'll be premiering on February 19th, 2009, with a promotional event (either press conference or pre-series stage show) occuring from January 31st to February 2nd.
Currently known information on the Rangers is as follows:
ShinkenRed, aka Shiba Takeru -- Matsukaza Tori
Name Pun: "Shiba" means "firewood."
Weapon: giant sword, akin to the one used by Cloud in Final Fantasy 7. Supposedly, his sword is also the team cannon -- no wonder it's so huge.
Mecha/Zord: Red lion...dog...thing. Forms the chest and head of the combined mecha, ShinkenOh.
Actor Information: Matsukaza-san is currently 20 years old; his birthday is October 17th. It looks like this'll be his first role.
ShinkenBlue, aka Ikenami Ryunosuke -- Aiba Hiroki
Name Pun: The "nami" in Ikenami means "wave."
Weapon: bow and arrow, assumedly -- we've only seen the bow portion, I think.
Mecha/Zord: Dragon. Forms the left leg of ShinkenOh.
Actor Information: Aiba-san is currently 21 years old; his birthday is October 1st. He's the most experienced of the confirmed actors; his main role is Fuji Syuusuke in the Prince of Tennis musicals (from 2005-2007, though he briefly reprised the role during the last tour), but he also appeared in Delicious Gakuin (with Nakamura Yuuichi, aka Kamen Rider Zeronos) and Tadashii Ouji no Tsukurikata (with Takeda Kouhei, aka Otoya Kurenai from Kiva). He released a "album" in 2006 as part of the promotion for Tenimyu, so my guess is he's guaranteed an image song.
ShinkenGreen, aka Tani Chiaki -- Suzuki Shogo
Name Pun: "Tani" means "valley."
Weapon: spear
Mecha/Zord: Badger. Forms the right leg of ShinkenOh.
Actor Information: Suzuki-san is currently 19 years old; his birthday is February 4th. (A day before mine!) Like Matsukaza, this appears to be his breakout role.
ShinkenYellow, aka Hanaori Kotoha -- Morita Suzuka
Name Pun: The "hana" in Hanaori means "flower."
Weapon: three-pronged shuriken, though I think I saw it referred to as a boomerang as well.
Mecha/Zord: Monkey. Forms the left arm of ShinkenOh.
Actor Information: Morita-san is the youngest Shinkenger at 16; her birthday is September 7th. No known acting experience at this time, though she is a member of Idoling!!!, an idol group under the Pony Canyon label.
ShinkenPink, aka Shiraishi Mako -- Takanashi Rin
Name Pun: "Shiraishi" means "white thread," which assumed to be related to clouds.
Weapon: fan
Mecha: Turtle. Forms the right arm of ShinkenOh.
Actor Information: Takanashi-san is 20; her birthday is December 17th. She's pretty much a newcomer, though she starred in a J-horror film called GOTH, which has apparently been fairly popular.

For the 50th anniversary of Tv-Asahi, Toei is producing a series(?), special (?) starring SMAP member Inagaki Goro. Inagaki issupposedly a huge Rider fan and have always wanted to play a Ridersince he was a kid. Perhaps this is why he is called Kamen Rider G. Ialso notice his eyes are shaped as the letter G. Yumiko Shaku alsostars as his lover.
If this turns out to be a series then this is historic. Two seriesairing at the same time. But nevertheless this is something I am ratherexcited about. |
