Zakry pays heavy price for missing physical training
PETALING JAYA: A decision to drop doubles shuttler Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif (pic) from the team to the Singapore Open is all his own doing.
Zakry has not been named with Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari to defend the men抯 doubles title in the championships scheduled for June 9-14.
National doubles chief coach Rexy Mainaky said that Zakry had fallen short on his commitment in physical training.

Time for a bigger group of women players, says Rexy
PETALING JAYA: The current set of top women抯 shuttlers will continue to stay injury-prone because they have to endure a very hectic schedule in competitions.
And national doubles chief coach Rexy Mainaky said that it was high time to increase the pool of players in the women抯 squad.
The just concluded Sudirman Cup world mixed team championships in Guangzhou showed Malaysia抯 over dependency on players who are currently nursing one injury or another.
And misfortune struck Julia Wong when she injured her knee. She was flown home and underwent a surgery that will put her out of action for seven to eight months.
The top singles shuttler, Wong Mew Choo, is also plagued with injury while the form of world No. 1 pair of Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty depends on the condition of the former.
Eei Hui, who is recovering from a back injury, has in the past been down with ankle and knee injuries.
Rexy added that Malaysia should be brave to expose younger and newer faces in international tournaments.
