Cinema: Funnyman Nabil’s life in focus
EVEN before entering the cinema hall, I was harbouring cynical thoughts regarding the quality of the movie.
Let’s be realistic — a new director, dodgy story line, main cast of lesser known names and new producers are surely formula for a disastrous flick.
LPS is not a laugh-out-loud comedy.
Despite being anchored by Nabil, one of Malaysia’s funniest men, the film struggles to stay afloat after the first 15 minutes.
Based on Nabil’s real life (though Nabil says the film reflects only 40 per cent of the odd jobs that he’s done), LPS is about the life of a young man who falls into a love-hate relationship with Natasya (Puteri Sarah).
He finds her an annoying brat who takes life for granted while she sees him as a rude kampung boy who has no respect for a lady.
Nabil struggles to support his family by trying to make ends meet.
He has an ill-stricken father, his mother and sister who is still studying.
Then there’s a drug addict brother too.
Let’s not deal with the other sub-plots (his family’s problems, affairs with colleagues, etc).
They are just tacky — enough said.
First-time director Aminah Rhapor is unable to execute a smooth transition between scenes resulting in scenes that are choppy and disorganised.
Nabil is a shadow of his Raja Lawak (the reality TV show which “discovered” Nabil) in his silver screen debut as a leading man.
Perhaps the script and movie editing restricted his originality.
Hopefully, he would learn to filter future projects before agreeing to anything.
[table][/table]For a comedian though, he shows some dramatic acting potential in the scenes in which his family is being torn apart.
Puteri’s character is irritating.
For example, instead of screaming in anger, she started laughing when Nabil is on the verge of throwing her into a large pail of water.
Singer Mila AF5 as Nabil’s sister Aisyah, on the other hand, is impressive.
The petite lass can act! Maybe longer and meatier roles next time around?
The film’s music was great, thanks to Taja of Meet Uncle Hussain.
This is his first time composing the music score for a movie.
For new wannabe directors and producers, please do not make films for the sake of fame.
Take pride in making them — this includes having good scripts and good editing. |

Aaah,Mila simple dan ceria je tadi.... tapikan akak tengok LPS ni macam tiada sokongan daripada Pelakun2 utamanya sendiri... Mila je yang sebuk dok promot LPS walaupun watak tempelan...baguslah Mila ni, sekurang-kurangnya sokong filem tempatan.... |
