Car crash fails to rattle Fairuzizuan
JOHOR BARU: Doubles ace Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari was rattled after being involved in an accident just an hour before his final group matches in the National Grand Prix Finals at the Bandaraya Stadium yesterday.
But, being the consummate professional that he is, Fairuzizuan took to the court with his mixed and men’s doubles partners to rattle the oppositions.
First, he combined with Wong Pei Tty to beat Ong Jian Guo-Chong Sook Chin 21-14, 21-17 in the mixed doubles before partnering Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif to upstage former national pair Chan Chong Ming-Chew Choon Eng 21-11, 21-15.
Recalling the incident, Faurizizuan claimed that the Perodua Myvi he was driving, which belonged to back-up player Vountus Indra Mawan, was hit from behind by a lorry, causing it to hit another car in front.
The incident, he said, happened about 100m from the stadium’s entrance.
He escaped unscathed but the car’s rear was damaged.
“I have to admit that I was a bit shaken after the accident but luckily I managed to play well,” said Fairuzizuan.
