Santa Barbara prosecutors are expected to file formal child molestation charges against Michael Jackson today. According to reports, District Attorney Tom Sneddon plans to return Jackson's passport to allow him to travel to London for Chrismukkah. Sneddon reportedly has also agreed to delay the arraignment a week to Jan. 16, which is bad news for the folks at Fox: The network's portion of the midseason TCA press tour takes place on that same day in Hollywood. That noise you hear is Gail Berman screaming, "Why me?!" |

Michael Jackson's trying not to let the charges against him dampen his holiday spirit.
Saturday afternoon, the Thriller singer is expected to canoodle with hundreds of his nearest and dearest at a get-together thrown for him by friends at his Neverland Ranch.
Jackson was charged Thursday with seven felony counts of child molestation and two felony counts of plying said child with an "intoxicating agent," reported to be wine.
The reclusive celeb has remained largely in seclusion in Las Vegas and other undisclosed locations since surrendering to Santa Barbara officials on charges of child molestation on November 20. The self-proclaimed King of Pop posted $3 million bail and moonwalked out of sight.
Now he's ready to show his face again, if only to those who have stood by him during his ordeal.
"It's more or less just to support Michael and a homecoming," Jackson spokesman Staurt Backerman said of the party, per Reuters. "It's not like revelry or anything. It's also not a solemn event because we have a good feeling about what the outcome [of the case] is going to be."
A-list lawyer Mark Geragos was quick to defend his eccentric client, calling the charges against Jackson "horrible, horrible," and emphasizing that the Bad singer was ready to fight the charges "with every fiber of his soul."
But before he fights, the performer's going to take some time out to love.
Backerman said that the guest list for the Jackson homecoming fete originally included about 300 names, but has since swelled to almost double that. He indicated that certain celebs would put in appearances, but did not disclose who those famous faces might be. Most of Jackson's large family was expected to be in attendance.
Post-party, Jackson plans to jet off to England, reportedly to promote his latest album Number Ones, which has been performing well on the British charts.
Santa Barbara authorities OK'd the overseas jaunt, returning the performer's passport on the condition that he return in time for his January 16 court date at which the charges against him will be formally read.
In a new wrinkle in the case against Jackson, Santa Barbara County Child Welfare has decided to look into the parenting techniques employed by the Gloved One on his own offspring, Celebrity Justice reports.
Officials have already begun a formal investigation of the well being of Jackson's three children, Prince Michael I, Paris Michael and Prince Michael II--the famously dangled baby also known as Blanket.
Authorities had not yet questioned the junior Jacksons. However, a source within the child welfare department said that Jackson did not fit the profile of someone who would harm his own kids. |

The King of Pop is restyling himself Jacko X.
Michael Jackson last night became a member of the Nation of Islam - and sources told The Post his religious changeover comes along with a shake-up of his personal staff.
High-ranking members of the Nation of Islam have been working to bring Jackson into Rev. Louis Farrakhan's flock - and Jackson's conversion is now well-known in the NOI community.
Exactly why Jackson converted wasn't clear to The Post's sources.
But Fox News's Web site reported yesterday that Jackson's brother Jermaine, who converted to Islam in 1989, has been seeking to win favor with his more famous sibling, and has brought Farrakhan's chief of staff, Leonard F. Muhammad, into Jacko's inner circle as a "bodyguard."
That's just one of many changes under way in Jackson's inner circle, sources said.
Word of Jackson's religious conversion comes as prosecutors prepared to formally file charges against him in a California child-molestation case - and as authorities agreed to return Jackson's passport to him so he can travel to Great Britain this weekend.
Jackson isn't expected to return until Jan. 6, lawyers said in court papers. Lawyers also agreed to put off Jackson's arraignment for five days, until Jan. 16.
Jackson remains free on $3 million bail after he surrendered to authorities and was arrested on Nov. 20. Two days earlier, cops tore through Neverland, his amusement-park-style estate just outside Los Olivos, Calif., looking for evidence to back up molestation claims made by a 14-year-old boy.
Although there's talk that some in Jackson's camp want to replace defense lawyer Mark Geragos, the high-priced Hollywood attorney appeared in firm control yesterday, and met privately in the afternoon with Santa Barbara County District Attorney Thomas Sneddon.
Sneddon said he plans to file the charges personally this afternoon at the courthouse in Santa Maria, Calif.
The King of Pop has vigorously denied the molestation claims.
L.A. County social workers in February cleared Jackson of allegations he molested that boy. But former Santa Barbara County Sheriff Jim Thomas has said he believes the alleged Santa Barbara County molestation took place after the L.A. County probe. |
