KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16, 2015:
“You can accuse me of playing state-based sentiments, but to me I’m just carrying out my duties to the people of Johor, and reminding them of the history and heritage behind this great land.” The statement above was uttered by the Crown Prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim or more commonly known as TMJ, in an exclusive interview with sports portal FourthOfficial.com yesterday. In it, TMJ said that as the future Sultan of Johor, his responsibilities lay first and foremost, with the people of the state. “I am going to be the future Sultan of this state and my main responsibility goes towards the people of Johor. Malaysia is important to me, but Johor and JDT will always come first,” he said, also referring to Johor Darul Takzim (JDT), the state’s football team.
He told the portal the people deserved to know that the “mess” he claimed the country was in, should in no way be associated to the Johor royal family that has always been strong, independent and resourceful.
“In fact, we only joined the Federation of Malaya, upon both parties agreeing to several basic terms and if any one of those terms are breached, we have the right to secede from this country.
“Years from now, if I happen to leave JDT, the people of Johor should know that there is nothing to be worried of. “The structure that I’m implementing right now, will mean that anyone, from president to players to staff members can come and go, but the club’s philosophy and blueprint will always ensure long-term stability,” said TMJ.
The former Johor FA president also expressed confidence that the people of the state will remain racially united despite of all the recent racist sentiments instigated by some of those involved in the political scene. “Johor, over the decades and centuries, we’ve always encouraged people to be united and committed to a cause,” he added. TMJ is among the royalty in this country who actively voices his opinion via the Johor football Facebook page called Johor Southern Tigers. Many took to pledging their support and admiration for the Crown Prince on the page, particularly in his move to speak up against what he deemed was wrong with the country. Recently several images of a fake Johor dollar were uploaded on Facebook, followed by hundreds of comments of those supporting possibility of a TMJ-led state government. - Rakyat Post
