hey KroeGand-san, something is really bothering me.. is 女優 refers to actress.. having look at the kanji, what is the relation between 優 to actress ...

That's how to differ between 'actor' and 'actress'... just add the kanji letter 女 before the kanji that you want to make it female... for example, if we add the kanji 女 before the character 'kami' 神 then it will become 'megami' 女神

well the word comes from 俳優 (haiyu and not Hi you!!!  ) . Basically haiyu is the performer of japanese drama and theater. And to differentiate actor and actress, they use 女優 (woman) and 男優 (man).

for your information the character 優 does not only represent 'gentle' but also 'superior' = sugureru (優れる) . originally the performer did dances with gentle movement and the characters '俳' means people who wears mask and dance + 優 gently so you got the word 俳優.

hope it answers your question

yess it answers my question.. thank you.. it sounds like the word 俳優 refers to the actors or actress in Japanese theather who used to wear mask or have a very thick make up when they perform on stage :lol.. now in modern world they still use the same word to refers to actor and actress..

Aku dah tanya dulu tapi takder orang jawab.. aku rasa laa jawapan dia "I like You Very Much" tapi ada jugak org cakap gitu bile refer kat binatang ker benda ker.. so maybe tak terbatas untuk orang jer laa.. may be maksud dia "I like very much"

Well 大 Dai is literally means big and 好き Suki means Like.. so 大好き literally means "Like Very Much" .. kena tunggu Kroe-Gand san masuk explain laa..

BTW if I add だよ Dayo and become 大好きだよ , is there anything changed with the meaning?

To Harumi, you can always check the meaning/translation of Japanese words here. I always go there whenever I want to check the meaning. But it wont work if you want, let say, the meaning/translation of whole sentence. So what I always do is I check every meaning of a word and try to make connection between all the words to come up with the meaning of a sentence. In addition, you can have English words translated into Japanese (literally) as well. So this site comes pretty handy.

harumi san, aishiteiru san...

well the meaning is like what aishiteiru san said. I think i did involve in some discusion on this words previously cos somebody also said it means 'i love you so much'. and yes it is correct too. but iif we look at the deeper meaning, it has it's different.

e.g
あなたのことは好きだけど、愛していないの (Anata no koto wa suki dakedo, aishiteinaino)
I like you but I don't love you

and to some, they take the different as below:
suki - use to somebody who you like/love but not as much as you like/love yourself
aishiteiru - use to somebody who is as important as himself or more

and also please remember 'suki' can be use for anything from human to rocks

it's a very long story started during the creation of Japan. simply put that they have their own preference although they are the same Japanese. it's not that easy to understand it cos it do involve war, politics and much more. normally people from tokyo do that cos they think they're the better one but people from osaka also do the same thing except that you've to go to Kansai (Osaka/Kyoto) to see that and they do it everyday even in tv programmes.

It so cute when they're talking japanese and adding -nyo each at the end of a sentence -nyo
