NATIONAL shuttlers will beat their Monday blues by singing Negaraku and raising the national flag to enhance patriotism and team spirit.
And from now, the players must wear only jerseys with the Malaysian flag in tournaments while coaches need to set a good example in terms of discipline.
BA of Malaysia (BAM) high performance manager Datuk James Selvaraj hopes it would improve Malaysia's chances of a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
"When I was in the national team, we used to sing the national anthem. I think it is time to re-introduce this in view of the 1Malaysia concept," said James, after a meeting between BAM and the National Sports Council (NSC) in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
"Singing the national anthem is also good in building team spirit. It will surely make the players in the mood for glory.
In terms of discipline, James said coaches and players must adhere to all training regulations.
"Coaches must set a good example by arriving on time for training. They must also keep tabs on players' attendance and other relevant matters," said James.
For next year, James said players will only be sent to selected tournaments to avoid injuries in preparation for the 2012 Olympics.
"We cannot allow players to play in too many tournaments as it will affect them. We learnt this from Lee Chong Wei's injury in the World Championships.
"Coaches will submit their programmes by next week. And all of them must include players' targets for next year before being given approval for participation.
"My expectations, however, will be high. For example, if we send (Lee) Chong Wei and company for eight tournaments, I want them to return with eight titles.
"It is important that they keep their winning mentality ahead of the Olympics," he said.
On the association's plans for the back-up squad, he said they would be given regularly exposure from next year in preparation for the 2014 Asian Games and the 2016 Olympic Games.
"Our back-up shuttlers have been doing well of late. I want them to step up a gear next year," he added.
