Kien Keat vows to help kids after being named Malaysian ambassador of Solibad
DOUBLES shuttler Koo Kien Keat can be aggressive and ruthless on court. But there is also a softer side to the Malaysian.
And yesterday, Kien Keat spoke about another of his passions after he was unveiled as the Malaysian ambassador for the Solidarity Badminton Foundation (Solibad) together with several other badminton stars.
The other high-profile ambassadors were Taufik Hidayat (Ina), Nathan Robertson (Eng), Zhou Mi (Hkg), Pi Hongyan (Fra), Jan O Jorgensen (Den) and Saina Nehwal (Ind).
Solibad bring together the badminton community in the world for charity work.
Kien Keat said that he was honoured to be given the opportunity to use sport to bring comfort for the underprivileged, especially children.
“I have the talent and I am more than happy to help the others in need in the best way that I know I can.
“I am really looking forward to it,” said Kien Keat after a press conference in Birmingham during the ongoing All-England.
“These are the little sacrifices that I can do as a badminton player.
“I am blessed and I want to encourage all my team-mates and others to bless those in need of financial aid, love and care. This will certainly be a fun way to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Kien Keat encourages those who want to help support Solibad’s ventures to log onto www.solibad.net for more information.
For a start, Kien Keat will be involved in a “1,000 racquets project” for Haiti, which has been severely hit by earthquake.
Solibad, in partnership with Peace and Sport of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), aim to collect badminton equipment around the world to help Haitians between the ages of eight and 20-years-old living in survivor camps to help them overcome adversity and to resume living together in confidence.
“It is great to start with the Haiti project. Together with the other top players, we will be helping out in other small projects that have been lined up,” said Kien Keat.
“Looking at the difficulties of others will certainly help me to overcome whatever challenges that I go through as a player too.”
Currently, Kien Keat and his partner, Tan Boon Heong, are under fire after losing to Denmark’s Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen in the opening round of the All-England on Wednesday.
They are the world No. 1 and top seeds and Malaysian hopes were high on them to win a second All-England title after 2007.
“It is difficult to accept that defeat. It has been two days and we are still trying to figure out what went wrong,” said Kien Keat.
“We are glad that our coach, Rexy Mainaky, has been more understanding. He has been encouraging us to come out of this setback. Hopefully, we will rise to give a better show in the Swiss Open (next week).”
Kien Keat-Boon Heong will be making a defence of the title in Basel.

aku ingtkan xde live.so aku carik la forum yg bincang psl ni selain kat cari ni. so termasuk la kat bulutangkis.com si indon punye forum psl badminton. yg aku herannya kan, semua nk chong wei kalah, n nak peter menang, wtf? sanggup tu kerana dengki kat mesia dan sangka bukan2 kat kita, sanggup biar bkn org asia menang tu.siap panggil malingsia lg dlm tu. padahal kita ni jiran jek. adakah mereka xleh terima kenyataan yg chong wei tu kuat? mereka ni bersukan hanya kerana dengki, iri hati,marah dsb. mcm chong wei main kat indon haritu, ade plak booooo stiap kali chong wei ambik serve. then masa sukan ape ntah main kat sana baru2 ni,bila mesia menang nyanyi lagu mesia puak2 indon ni nyanyi lagu kebangsaan indon. apakah ni sikap penduduk indon sebenarnya? too bad.... indon ni agak memalukan as negara islam....mgkn sbb ramai yg x educated |

kalau bcl-lcw, kalau die maintain permainan yg bagus, aku rs harapan jugak utk die kalahkan lcw. pd firasat hamba , lindan punye skill sama dgn lcw.cuma lcw defence dgn net bagus(tp skrg speed dan serangan lcw dh bagus), ld pulak sgt bagus dlm kecekapan,serangan dan speed. jumping smash die jugak membawa maut. kalau bcl bleh baca ld, x mustahil die bleh baca lcw gak. so menurut tilikan patik, patik masih di atas pagar utk yakin lcw boleh menggondol kejuaraan ae. lcw perlu berhati2 dan lebih relaks spy x gabra mcm lwn korea aritu. mental kena kuat spy x buat kesilapan kurang cerdik. selamat berjuang dan moga berjaya
