Ashida Mana and Suzuki Fuku charm 1,500 fans at “Marumo no Okite” event

Earlier today, Fuji TV held a special event with the two child actors Ashida Mana and Suzuki Fuku for their Sunday drama “Marumo no Okite.”

Around 1,500 people were in attendance to watch the adorable kids and they also learned how to dance to their song “Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori!” that will be released on CD on May 25th. During the ending of the drama they are always dancing the choreography together with the rest of the cast, but today was their first time dancing it in public.

Ashida commented, “Dancing it in front of so many people made me really nervous. I was so tense!”

Together with their choreographer, Hamada “Peco” Miwako, they then taught the audience how it’s done and everyone was eager to dance along with them.

Both Ashida and Suzuki enrolled into primary school this spring and are said to have become really close friends during the filming. She said with a happy expression, “We went to school today as well! We are currently learning the hiragana.” About how the filming is going, they exchanged glances and smiled, “It’s so much fun!”

Ashida then revealed, “We are always playing with the yo-yo or the koma mawashi (Japanese spinning top).” Suzuki added, “Abe (Sadawo)-san’s yo-yo skills are amazing!” Abe Sadawo’s skills must be so good that the two are already calling him “master.”

It was also mentioned that they are currently reading the script of episode seven, but Ashida refused to make any spoilers – “I can’t tell you! You have to enjoy it while watching! Please watch our drama!”

Further both of them explained their methods for the scenes that require them to shed tears. Ashida’s method, “First I try to get into the right feeling (without much thinking), but if it doesn’t work, I imagine that my mother went somewhere and left me behind.” Suzuki also already seems to have the ability to feel the atmosphere of the scene, “During farewell scenes or scenes when I’m alone, I really start to feel lonely myself and just start to cry.”

“Marumo no Okite” airs every on Sunday at 9pm.

Ashida Mana + Suzuki Fuku set new record with their single, “Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori”!

Six-year-old child actors Ashida Mana and Suzuki Fuku recently released a single titled “Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori” to promote their upcoming drama “Marumo no Okite“, setting a new record for singles!

“Maru-Maru-Mori-Mori” has sold approximately 35,000 copies since it hit stores on May 25th, putting the adorable duo’s single in third place for the week of June 6th. This makes Ashida and Suzuki – who released the single under the name “Kaoru to Tomomi, Tamani Mook” – the youngest to make it into the top ten in Oricon’s Single Ranking in recent years. The last group to do so was Kigurumi, whose 2006 single “Tarako Tarako Tarako” charted in the top ten nearly five years ago. At the time, the members of Kigurumi were an average of 10.5 years old.

Furthermore, the last time a six-year-old Japanese singer was able to chart this high was when Minagawa Osamu released his single “Kuroneko no Tango” in 1969 – a stunning forty-one years ago.

The song has also been sweeping Recochoku’s charts, claiming the top spot in six of their download rankings.

Congratulations to the young stars on their impressive achievement!

“Marumo no Okite” achieves big ratings for series finale

The final episode of the Fuji TV drama series “Marumo no Okite” aired on Sunday. According to numbers released by Video Research Ltd., the episode achieved an impressive average rating of 23.9% in the Kanto region, and 20.6% in the Kansai region. The episode’s peak was 27.5%.

“Marumo no Okite” has been getting strong numbers since the beginning of the season, but it likely suffered due to airing in the same time slot as TBS’s “JIN.” That series ended last week, with a final episode that achieved 26.1% ratings (peak of 31.7%) and gave the entire series a 21.3% average.

Before the finale, the highest-rated episode of “Marumo no Okite” was two weeks earlier, at 17.2%. This means that the last episode scored almost 7 percentage points higher than the series’ peak. Overall, the final average for the series ended up at 15.8%.

The show’s theme song “Maru Maru Mori Mori!,” sung by child co-stars Ashida Mana (6) and Suzuki Fuku (6) debuted at #3 on the sales charts and has remained in the Top 10 up until now.

The final episode, which lasted 90 minutes long, also included a guest appearance by AKB48’s Maeda Atsuko (19). Maeda is starring in the new “Hanazakari no Kimitachi e ~ Ikemen Paradise” drama series, which premieres on July 10 in the same time slot.

“Maru Maru Mori Mori” tops Recochoku rankings for first half of 2011

Mobile download site Recochoku has released a partial ranking for the first half of 2011. The popular song “Maru Maru Mori Mori!,” which is the theme song of the hit drama series “Marumo no Okite,” achieved the unprecedented feat of taking #1 in seven different categories.

“Maru Maru Mori Mori!” is sung by “Marumo no Okite” co-stars Ashida Mana (7) and Suzuki Fuku (7). The song and its simple dance has become a phenomenon, pushing the CD single as high as #1 on the daily charts and #3 on the weekly charts. It has also remained in the top 10 for the past five weeks.

On Recochoku, the song’s success is even more apparent, outperforming even AKB48’s “Everyday, Kachuusha.” It ranked #1 in the overall Recochoku download chart, as well as the categories for chaku-uta, video clip, chakushin movie, melody call, new artist (single downloads), and new artist (chaku-uta).

Ashida Mana to appear in ‘Gou’ again, wears a wedding kimono for the first time

Today, it was announced that popular child actress Ashida Mana would make another appearance in NHK’s taiga drama ‘Gou ~Himetachi no Sengoku~‘.

Ashida first appeared in the beginning of the drama to portray the early years of ‘Cha-cha‘, now played by Miyazawa Rie. For her re-appearance she was cast as the character ‘Sen‘. Since Sen is the daughter of Gou (Ueno Juri) and Tokugawa Hidetada (Mukai Osamu), she marries Toyotomi Hideyori (Takeda Katsuto) at the very young age of seven. Consequently, Ashida will wear a traditional wedding kimono for the very first time.

The young actress just turned seven last month, so she was able to empathize with her character’s feelings. She commented, “Sen-hime is still so young, but she’s already getting married and leaving her mother and father. I think that’s amazing. I would probably feel lonely.” Thinking about her ideal wedding, she added, “I want to wear both, a [Western] dress and a white kimono.”

Another interesting thing to note is that Sen is essentially the Cha-cha’s daughter-in-law, making her re-appearance slightly confusing not just for the viewers, but for Ashida as well. “It’s a strange feeling,” confessed Ashida. “I was surprised and happy that I would be able to play two different roles in one story. It was a lot of fun.”

Gou’s producer explained that after Ashida’s accurate portrayal of Cha-cha, they were eager to have her play another child character. The decision to cast her as ‘Sen’ was made soon after they finished filming the first episode.  The positive viewer feedback about Ashida’s acting proved that the producer’s instincts were right.

Sen makes her first appearance in episode 37, scheduled to air on September 25th.

She's prettier than Mia la. Try tgk drama2 n muvi2 dier, dier lawa on screen, dier tak baper photogenic, certain cameramen jer yg menjadik amek gmbr dier.

Dr segi lakonan n cleverness, dier lagi ratus2 kali better, even klu compared to adult actors pun.
