Honestly, she just restored my faith in Malaysian music industry. She has unique style, much different from the rest of current Malaysian popular singers. She has quite surprisingly powerful lungs. She sings very well in both Malay and English. She's what I've been waiting for for a long time from our industry. Hers is one of the only two local CDs that I'd buy, if I get the chance of course (probably the next time I go home). I rarely compliment but she sure deserves it.
Actually I'm listening to her performing Lady Marmalade right now on YouTube. I must admit that I'm too much into Patti Labelle's I've been rejecting remakes or live performances from others. Especially since it's not sang by a fat black lady. But despite my skepticism (even though I already know she's good after seeing her other performances), I clicked on the link, and I have to admit that I was blown away after only the beginning of the preformance. She stayed true to her style, she performed it with a lot of enthusiasm and energy, she improvised with excellent vocal maneuver. She peformed the song the way it's supposed to be performed. Every quality that I look for in any performance of this song she pretty much delivered. What can I say? She's the best Malaysian singer I've seen since a looong time.

ok I just saw the video of her live performance of Gemilang. And I just discovered that she has rare talent in handling the stage. She knows how to make a live performance more special than recording, which is the way it's supposed to be, but sadly hard to see in our local industry these days. She gets people involved: the fellow artists on stage as well as exciting her audience. She's electric. This is what I'd pay good money to see. |
