Simulasi dedah kebimbangan Fairuzizuan-Zakry
Soon Hock-Thien How turut gagal mencatat kemenangan semalam selepas tewas kepada pasangan No. 1 dunia, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong 16-21, 21-23.

Paris perfect for Tan Fook’s honeymoon and last fling at glory
KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran men’s doubles shuttler Choong Tan Fook has two very good reasons for wanting to go to Paris in August.
The 35-year-old Tan Fook has qualified on merit with Lee Wan Wah for his eighth World Championships, which will be held in Paris from Aug 23-29.
And it would also be the perfect place for Tan Fook and Zhang Jiewen, who tied the knot last night, to go for their honeymoon.
Yesterday, Tan Fook and Olympic champion Jiewen of China treated about 1,000 guests to a romantic wedding dinner at Genting Highlands.
“I wanted it to be a very special occasion and I am happy that many were able to attend our wedding. I am also thrilled that our Thomas-Uber team members managed to take time off to join in this ceremony,” said a delighted Tan Fook.
Tan Fook, whose love affair with the Olympic champion blossomed in 2004, said that the world meet in Paris would mark an end to his decade-long badminton career.
“I have finally decided that the world meet in Paris will be my final shot at winning glory for the country. Then, I will move on,” said Tan Fook, who had reached the semi-finals twice in 2001 in Seville and 2007 in Kuala Lumpur.
“Of course, I will want to do well with Wan Wah. I want it to be the most memorable one.”
Tan Fook will then go into coaching – either in Malaysia or elsewhere.
For the record, the world No. 12 Tan Fook-Wan Wah did well to qualify for the world meet on merit despite having left the national team set-up for almost two years.
The others who made the cut are Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and independent players Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen.

Hafiz makes cut but Fairuzizuan- Zakry miss boat for world meet
PETALING JAYA: National singles shuttler Mohd Hafiz Hashim booked a ticket to the World Championships but doubles shuttlers Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari failed to make the cut by merit yesterday.
The qualifying period for the World Championships ended yesterday and Malaysia will have 19 qualifiers for this year’s meet, which will be held in Paris from Aug 23-29.
Based on Thursday’s world rankings list, Hafiz squeezed in as the third men’s singles qualifier after ending a one-year qualification period as the world No. 22.
A country can have a maximum of three players if all of them are ranked within 24 at the end of the qualifying period.
The two players ahead of Hafiz are world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei and No. 16 Wong Choong Hann.
“I made it because of my performances at the ABC (Asian Badminton Championships) in India two weeks ago. I reached the quarter-finals and it was good enough to move up two rungs. I would not have made it if I had lost in the third round,” said Hafiz, who will play as the third singles in the Thomas Cup Finals.
“I am happy to have made it after missing the cut last year. Now, I can be completely focused on the Thomas Cup Finals.”
Zakry-Fairuzizuan, who hardly competed in international tournaments this year, failed to make it despite being ranked 20th.
This is because there are three pairs ahead of them – Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong (world No. 1), Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah (No. 12) and Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen (No. 14).
The ABC mixed doubles champions Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying will also be making their debut in the world meet after achieving a career high by breaking into the top 20 in the standings.
World No. 17 Peng Soon-Liu Ying will join Kien Keat-Wong Pei Tty for the Paris trip.
A country can have a maximum of two players or pairs if all of them are in top 150 bracket.
