SMAP’s 46th single, “Boku no Hanbun,” ranked #1 this week on the sales charts, with more than 130,000 copies sold. This is their 13th consecutive #1 single, and their 24th overall. SMAP is also the current record holder of “most consecutive Top 10 singles since debut,” and “Boku no Hanbun” extends that streak to 46.
SMAP is only the third group ever to achieve a #1 single 20 years after their debut. The other two groups are Southern All Stars, who last did it with “I AM YOUR SINGER” in 2008 (their 31st year), and B'z, who last did it with “Don't Wanna Lie” this year (their 23rd year).

In albums, FUNKY MONKEY BABYS ranked #1 with nearly 110,000 copies sold of their latest release, “FUNKY MONKEY BABYS 4.”
However, Ketsumeishi had perhaps a more impressive showing on the charts by simultaneously releasing four best albums and taking the #2 through #5 spots, each with more than 50,000 copies sold. This sets a new all-time record for “most albums simultaneously in the Top 5,” surpassing the previous record of 3 that was held by Inoue Yosui (1974), Ozaki Yutaka (1992), and TMN (1994).

Akanishi Jin’s second solo single, “Seasons,” topped the Oricon sales charts this past week with more than 97,000 copies sold. Added to his solo debut single “Eternal” last March and his U.S. debut mini-album “TEST DRIVE featuring JASON DERULO” last December, Akanishi now has three consecutive #1 releases as a soloist.

In albums, EXILE’s latest album “EXILE JAPAN / Solo” sold 350,000 copies, taking the #1 spot. This is their 4th consecutive #1 album, and their 14th overall.
With this album, EXILE now has a streak of 10 consecutive years with a #1 album. This feat has only been accomplished before by Matsutoya Yumi (18 years, 1981-1998) and Hamasaki Ayumi (13 years, 1999-2011), which means that EXILE is both the first group and the first male artist to do so. The second longest streak among male artists is 8 years, held by Arashi (2004-2011) and B'z (1996-2003).

On the DVD charts, AKB48 topped the rankings with “AKB48 Yossha ~Ikuzo~! in Seibu Dome Special Box,” which sold 71,000 copies. The box set was released simultaneously with 4 other versions, which ranked #11, #13, #23, and #29. AKB48 is the first female artist to have five DVDs rank in the top 100 during the first week, surpassing the previous record of 3 shared by MAX, Moritaka Chisato, Hamasaki Ayumi, and SPEED.

NYC’s latest single, “Wonderful Cupid / Garasu no Mahou,” climbed the charts this week to take the #1 spot. The single sold a little more than 40,000 copies, slightly better than its sales during its debut week. This is the group’s third #1 single, though their last one was released in 2010.

In DVDs, Amuro Namie’s “namie amuro LIVE STYLE 2011” ranked #1. It originally reached #1 after its release two weeks ago, but it dropped to #5 last week before returning to the top this week. This is only the 5th music DVD ever to reclaim #1 two weeks later, and the only other one by a solo female artist was by Utada Hikaru 12 years ago.
