A seafood restaurant in China has come up with a controversial way of offering discounts to its female customers depending on their bra sizes.
Trendy Shrimp, which is located in a mall in the city of Hangzhou, advertised the unusual discount in a poster placed outside the restaurant, the Qianjing Evening Post reported.
“The whole city is looking for BREASTS,” reads the poster, which features an accompanying image of animated female characters with varying breast sizes and a table showing how much of a price cut a woman would get based on her bra size.
Women with A-cups could receive a 5% discount on their bill while those with G-cups get 65% off
As expected, the sexist promotion was heavily criticised by the public. According to the BBC, many have slammed the promotion as "vulgar advertising" and "discriminatory towards women".
The poster was removed within a few days following the public backlash
However, Trendy Shrimp general manager Lan Shenggang defended their sales strategy "Once the promotion started, customer numbers rose by about 20%. Some of the girls we met were very proud - they had nothing to hide," he told BBC.
The manager also said customers could redeem the discounts from female staff members - rather than male - to “avoid embarrassment”.
