Episode 1: 26 august 2017
After the first General Elections in 1955, Tunku Abdul Rahman runs out of funds to make a return trip to London to secure the nation’s independence from the British. Rokiah, a laundry lady with a son named Salleh, set up a donation drive, ‘Derma Merdeka’ to help fund Tunku’s trip and gives away several of her personal belongings, including her estranged husband’s ring. When Salleh finds out, he works hard to buy back the only memento left of his father.

When a bundle containing the donations goes missing, the townsfolk – led by the town’s busybody, Ainoon – start blaming the funfair community for the loss. Betty, a former cabaret singer, who has just arrived from Singapore with her son Boon to start a new life in town, finds herself dragged into the townsfolk’s baseless accusation.

As the funfair opens to the public for the first time after moving from the north to Melaka and receives cool response from the townsfolk amid the accusations, the three friends – Salleh, Boon and Devi – put their heads together to solve the mystery of the missing bundle and clear the funfair’s name once and for all. As everyone goes through his or her own journey of self-discovery, the nation celebrates its first-ever Merdeka Day.

Episode 2 : 27 august 2017
In 1969, Salleh sets his sights on a girl named Mariam, whom he met at the funfair. Knowing Boon has feelings for Devi, Salleh makes it a double date as he invites the three of them for a one day trip to the beach where young love blossoms and fails.

Upon their return, a Molotov cocktail explodes near them, launching them into one of the bloodiest events in the nation’s history – the May 13 Riot. They make their way to the hospital as Devi is injured, carefully avoiding the riots as they go, but not before Salleh is shocked to discover Samad, his brother, is part of the riots. He escapes before Salleh can stop him.

In the hospital which is under military lockdown, Devi is treated, and in turn starts helping the hospital staff with the dozens of bloody victims pouring in. Meanwhile, Boon and Salleh are caught by army personnel for trying to escape as Boon is too worried about his mother Betty. Not long after, Devi discovers a familiar looking face among the critically injured patients – it’s Betty. Boon says a painful goodbye to his mother, and she dies.

The next morning, more soldiers arrive at the hospital to evacuate the civilians. Boon and Salleh are separated. The situation slowly gets under control, as Boon grieves for the loss of Betty, while Salleh frantically searches for Samad, not knowing that he was already dead.

Episode 3 : 28 august 2017
Devi is part of the country’s track team who is in the middle of preparing for the 1971 SEAP Games. Her coach wanted her to work as part of a team and compete in the 4 x 100m relay event, but her pride gets the better of her. Things are made worse for Devi as her No. 1 position is threatened by a teammate and she realises that she might be at the end of her career.

For a while, her motives to compete are purely for selfish reasons and not for the country. Devi protests by breaking the rules that cause conflicts between her and her coach, her teammates and her mother.

Meanwhile, Boon gets married to the love of his life, Dianne. At the wedding, Captain Harris hands over the funfair to Boon, much to Salleh’s despair. The failure of taking over the funfair prompts Salleh to rethink his plans for the future, which would prove to be a turning point for him.

Devi finally learns the importance of teamwork and goes on to win the SEAP Games with her teammates, much to the delight of everyone.

Episode 4 : 29 august 2017

Salleh, with the aid of the NEP, ventures into a new business opportunity manufacturing Malaysian-made VCRs, in line with the government’s “Belilah Barangan Buatan Malaysia” campaign. He sells off his land and palm oil estate in Negeri Sembilan to move to KL for this purpose, much to annoyance of his wife. Salleh’s lofty ambitions and endless thirst for success drive a wedge between him and his family, causing them to drift further away from him.

Meanwhile, Boon faces a difficult time at the funfair when a mischievous child falls off the Ferris wheel, causing the funfair to face tremendous loss and dwindling visitors. He does everything he can to keep his funfair, and more importantly, the funfair family, afloat. However, it is not long before Boon realizes the difficult decisions he has to make.

Devi is scared and confused when she wakes up from a week-long coma. When she realizes Suppiah had made a vow to reconcile with his father for her healing, she follows him to fulfill it. Their journey takes a dive when they learn a harsh truth about Suppiah’s father, and the children of the community which he used to live in.

Episode 6 : 31 august2017
Facing a recent injury, 69 year old Salleh is taken in by his son Johan to be looked after. Reluctant to be held down, Salleh joins forces with his old friends, Boon and Devi, and sneaks out of the house to embark on an eventful roadtrip which he promises them will end in a surprise.

Boon is furious to learn that Salleh has dragged them all the way to Johor. An argument erupts in the car that distracts Salleh, causing them to crash. Fortunately unscathed, the trio climb out of the car wreck in the middle of nowhere and stumble upon an inn named Hotel Merdeka. They check in, but before nightfall, they are alerted that the 2014 East Coast flood has reached the hotel.

Boon’s constipation causes the trio to miss the evacuation van, and before long, it dawns on them: they are caught in the massive flood. Salleh, now despondent, reveals that his surprise was that they would see their childhood funfair together again. However, they work together and somehow manage to send a video of themselves to Salleh’s niece Liyana despite the poor phone reception. She uploads it and it goes viral on social media. This alerts a drone operator who locates the trio and informs the authorities for their ultimate rescue.

Later, Boon and Devi drag Salleh atop a hill for their own surprise. To his joy, the duo surprise him with a beautiful view of their childhood funfair. They sit down on a bench to rest. Salleh reminisces all the years of his life and somehow feels more tired than usual. With a smile on his face, his eyes close and his head slowly slumps onto Devi’s shoulder.

Episode 1: 26 august 2017
After the first General Elections in 1955, Tunku Abdul Rahman runs out of ...

Episod 1.
I love episod 1 as the introduction kpd cerita saleh, boon dan devi. Lakonan mereka sgt2 cemerlang terutama saleh played by haris haziq (pelakon filem redha). He is true actor. Dialog jelas, ada substance, dan cukup emosi. Begitu juga boon dan devi. I also tertarik aziz m osman menumpukan lebih kpd karakter mrk bertiga rather than kisah2 merdeka yg dah klise. And, also i am quite impressed with the setting, bukan senang nak buat period movie mcm ni. Walaupun bukan lah wow sgt, tapi i am fine with it.
Surprisingly, i watched ep 1 with my kids they asked a lot of questions everything from about the life in 50s, the funfair, the merdeka itself. And they love the story too. Rasa patriotik sgt!!!

Yg agak kureng, maybe org putih kat funfair tu knp dia kena pakai baju koboi all the time..?

I recommend all to watch the series sempena nak sambut kemerdekaan yg ke 60 tahun ni. Sebab utk episod 1 ni, sbnrnya bukan lah isu2 berat yg nak diceritakan, tapi lebih kpd prjalanan anak2 merdeka mengharungi fasa kehidupan masing2.
Sinematografi lawa, music scoringnya juga sedap. Tahniah astro!

“Saya okey. Kami okey,” kata Remy ringkas.

"Kalau ikut hati, semestinya saya ingin berkahwin secepat mungkin.

Remy kini juga sedang rancak menjalani penggambaran siri mini, Do[s]a.
