Difahamkan, bantahan tersebut kerana notis pemberitahuan pelantikan Yang Dipertua Dewan Rakyat didakwa tidak mengikut prosedur.

Baru 10 minit, Dewan Rakyat sudah kecoh

KUALA LUMPUR: Sidang Dewan Rakyat kecoh ketika sesi pencalonan Speaker Dewan Rakyat yang baharu pada pagi ini disusuli dengan ahli parlimen pembangkang bertindak untuk keluar dewan.

Ia sebagai protes kepada perlantikan bekas hakim Mahkamah Tinggi dan Mahkamah Rayuan, Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof sebagai Speaker Dewan Rakyat ke-9 pada hari ini, menggantikan Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.

Perlantikan beliau disahkan oleh Setiausaha Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Rosmee Hamzah kerana hanya satu nama yang diterima untuk perlantikan jawatan tersebut.

Ketika itu, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan (Pas-Kota Bharu) bangun untuk menyatakan protes terhadap prosedur pencalonan dengan merujuk kepada 'Point of Order' namun proses perlantikan tetap diteruskan.
Tindakan itu mengundang kritikan daripada ahli pembangkang yang lain dari Pas dan UMNO.



Pencalonan Mohamad Ariff dicadangkan Perdana Menteri, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (PPBM-Langkawi) dan disokong Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR-Pandan).

Mohamad Ariff, 69, dari Sungai Petani, Kedah, berkelulusan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Undang-undang dari University of London (London School of Economics) dan memulakan karier pada 1974 sebagai pensyarah undang-undang sebelum diiktiraf sebagai profesor madya di Fakulti Undang-undang Universiti Malaya.

Dari 1993 hingga 1995, Mohamad Ariff bercuti daripada pengamalan undang-undang untuk menyertai Suruhanjaya Sekuriti Malaysia, yang baru ditubuhkan ketika itu, sebagai pengarah pertama Jabatan Penyeliaan Pasaran.

KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition MPs have walked out of the Dewan Rakyat in protest over the new speaker, former Court of Appeal judge Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.

They said they were dissatisfied with the choice of candidate as it did not follow the standing orders.

Only Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin remained in the Dewan.


Ariff, who was sworn in this morning, was appointed as the new speaker following his proposal by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which was supported by Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The 221 members of the Dewan Rakyat were also sworn in, except Pagoh MP Muhyiddin Yassin who is on medical leave following his recent surgery to remove a tumour from his pancreas.

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional and PAS MPs walked out of the Dewan Rakyat after Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof (pic) was sworn in as the Speaker for the 14th Parliament.

This came after Opposition MPs jeered when Mohamad Ariff was sworn in, with Barisan and PAS lawmakers claiming that the appointment process was not transparent and a point of order was raised by Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS-Kota Baru) when Dewan Rakyat secretary Datuk Roosme Hamzah read out the motion proposing Mohamad Ariff as the Speaker.

On Monday (July 16), Dewan Rakyat secretary Datuk Roosme Hamzah read the motion which proposed Mohamad Ariff as the sole candidate for the post.

"I have received a suggestion from the Prime Minister in his letter to the Dewan Rakyat on July 2, 2018. As such the House would like to propose Datuk Mohamad Arif Md Yusof as the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat," read Roosme.
