WHAT MUM SAYS ABOUT TAUFIK.
"Taufik since Boon Lay Primary School has been very smart. He always got first. There was once when he got second and he said that the teacher "cheated" him. He kept to himself for several days. It took his father to get him out of that state.
Taufik also likes to dress up since small. Wears a hat and even his father's clothes. I have never scolded him cos he knows his responsibility as a student. It's not difficult looking after him. I have never differentiated my children although Taufik is more smart than his two brothers. Although his is the youngest, he had never asked to be pampered or never asked for more attention.
When he was younger, Taufik had shown his interest in singing. Because when I went to work, he would often go to his uncle's house, the late A Ramlie and my younger sister's, Maria Bachok. Maybe it's from there that his talent was developed. When he sings, everybody must keep quiet. He really likes this Hindustan song - John Johnny Johnathan!
Taufik could read "doa" and has completed reading the Al-Quran once. My family often goes to Masjid Jamek at Telok Blangah near the World Trade Centre for religious and Quran reading classes. Actually, Taufik's father and myself wanted to send him to Trengganu to learn Islamic Studies. But Taufik said he liked to continue schooling in the English stream. We didn't force. The important thing is, whatever he does, he does it well.
I have never forced Taufik to study. However, I ever bought for Taufik assessment books for him to practise. He really liked studying until he went to Jurong Secondary School.
As he grew older, Taufik became a son who was quiet and liked to coop himself in his room. He was busy with his computer composing songs. I felt that probably he was affected with the divorce of his parents. But Thanks to Allah, his studies were ok, until he decided to go to Singapore Polytechnic.
I was overwhelmed when Taufik took part-time jobs to pay for his fees. He did all sorts of things. He ever became a clown and sent pizza. Also helped selling "kueh" at the coffee shop and other part-time jobs. I sometimes pitied him when I saw him worked so hard because he needed to pay his fees and buy school books. Taufik also gave me his salary. It could be said that Taufik is a child who does not like to burden his parents. Likewise for his brothers. They are close. If they played, they would play together. Taufik likes active/aggressive games since young. When he was younger, he liked playing the roller blade. He ever went to Pasir Gudang motor racing when he grew up.
Now he's already popular, I understand if he has so many female fans. I'm not worried. Because we had given him guidance from small. Also, Taufik knows how to take care of himself.
Gossip? Normal lah. I understand too well the artiste's world. Because my sister, Maria Bachok, was an artiste in the 70s. So, if Taufik is being connected to any artistes, I'm not shocked. Because I know Taufik would want to chase his dream of becoming a singer. I ever told Taufik that if he had wanted to get married, wait till I get my CPF. Now my age is 53. I'm not particularly concerned about his choice. The important thing is, the girl must be "beriman" (religious) and courteous.
My hope: "Fik, be strong in facing the entertainment world. Mum's not asking for anything, just pray that Fik will succeed and always remember mum's advices to Fik. If you are successful, do not forget who you are".
