The ring around the Moon is caused by the refraction of Moonlight (which of course is reflected sunlight) from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.
The shape of the ice crystals results in a focusing of the light into a ring. Since the ice crystals typically have the same shape, namely a hexagonal shape, the Moon ring is almost always the same size.

Less typical are the halos that may be produced by different angles in the crystals. They can create halos with an angle of 46 degrees.


Moon Corona (Moonbow)


Lunar coronae are much more familiar than those around the sun. They are seen when the clouds are thin enough that each single corona light ray reaching the eye is scattered or diffracted by only one droplet. Of course, the whole corona is made by a great many droplets individually scattering the moonlight.

Sometimes as clouds pass over the moon the corona shrinks and swells as different sized droplets mould it. Small droplets make the largest coronae with aureoles a few moon diameters across.

46 Degree Halo





A 46 degree halo is a ring of light observed 46 degrees from the sun or moon.
Although they are less common than 22 degree halos, the process by which they form is similar.

Selalunya bila adanya awan yang nipis di langit melalui pancaran cahaya bulan atau matahari, kita akan dapat lihat corona jelas terbentuk. Ada ketikanya dikala langit cerah tanpa awan pun kita dapat lihat juga. Cuma tidak terperasan jer.
