April 6 marks 20 years since the Bosnian war, which broke out after the recognition of the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. More than 10,000 people have died in ethnic conflict, which lasted from 1992 to 1995. Almost half the population of pre-war Bosnia in 4.3 million people fled the country during the war. Were killed 10 000 people, mostly from a sniper bullet or a missile fire - during the 44-month siege of Sarajevo. This siege is the longest siege in modern history of the capital. By the end of the war the population of Sarajevo was only 64% of the prewar population. Serbian authorities in the 18 000 people surrounded the city with artillery, rocket launchers and antiaircraft guns. By the end of the siege the defenders of the city was only 5 tanks and 20 artillery pieces. The city was destroyed, the Bosnian government estimates the damage at more than $ 10 billion. And only in the mid 2000s, most buildings have been completely restored.
