KUALA TERENGGANU: A woman who has been working at a cybercafe here for less than a month was raped by a customer at her workplace. Terengganu CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said the 24-year-old woman had just opened the shop at Padang Hiliran here at noon on Aug 27, when a man in his 40s walked in and requested to use one of the computers. ACP Manoharan said while the woman was ushering the man to a computer booth, he suddenly took out a knife and forced her to be silent.
The victim kept quiet because she feared being injured as there was no one in the shop at that time. The assailant then tied up the victim’s hands and feet, placed a tape across her mouth and raped her. “The ordeal lasted about 10 minutes,” ACP Manoharan said at a press conference yesterday. He said the suspect also took the victim’s mobile phone, money and jewellery, as well as cash from the register. ACP Manoharan said the victim recognised the suspect as he had visited the cybercafe before and bought mobile phone reload cards on both occasions. Based on the victim’s description, police have produced a photofit of the suspect and hope the public can help find the suspect. The suspect is fair skinned, thin, of normal height, has short hair and is believed to be a foreigner. He has a huge tattoo of a centipede on his left thigh and a tattoo of a foreign handwriting on his left arm.
