Prehistoric whale skeletons found in Egypt
CAIRO: Egyptian Ministry of Environment announced Saturday that a huge valley which contains many prehistoric whale skeletons have been recently discovered in a valley north of Lake Qarun in Fayoum governorate.
On its website, the ministry quoted by China’s Xinhua news agency, said that a whole skull, two jaws, 20 vertebraes and some ribs were found.
The discovery enriched the whales’ historic record in Egypt and the whole world.
Ten vertebraes, which belonged to a bigger whale believed to be new species, were found in the same place in addition to some of its teeth, it added.
Lake Qarun was a freshwater one in the prehistoric period but is today a saltwater lake. It is a source of tilapia and other fish in the local area.
Ancient Egyptians used to live around this lake, fishing and hunting animals. -- Bernama

Is it in this area? The fossils here were found as early as 1905.
