Pramugara pondan mengamuk terjun kapal terbang Emergency exit for angry steward who turned the air blue A flight attendant has become an online celebrity after quitting his job in spectacular style. Jet Blue employee Steven Slater leapt from an Airbus after becoming involved in a furious row with a passenger. As the plane taxied after landing in, a passenger tried to take his luggage from an overhead locker despite orders from cabin crew to sit down. Mr Slater confronted him but was hit on the head with the passenger's luggage. The flight attendant stormed to the front of the cabin and unleashed a foul-mouthed tirade on 100 stunned passengers, saying: “To the passenger who called me a mother*****r, f*** you. “I've been in the business 28 years. I've had it. That's it.” He then took two beers from the galley, deployed the plane's emergency chute and jumped onto it with his hand luggage. Mr Slater then ran to his car and drove home, officials said. Stunned passengers today spoke of their shock. “You know, you don't want to see a flight attendant lose their cool like that,” said passenger Philip Catelinet. “I'm glad it happened on the ground and not anywhere in the air.” Mr Slater was arrested at his home shortly after and has now been charged with criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. He could face up to seven years in jail if convicted. As news of the outburst spread, thousands of users hailed Slater as a hero and video of the plane has been shown across the globe. Some users have begun a “Free Steven Slater” campaign to help him avoid jail. Thousands have visited his page, which has dozens of pictures of Mr Slater at work, and also dressed as a pirate on holiday. The meltdown occurred at Kennedy International Airport shortly after the JetBlue flight from landed. Mr Slater is believed to have boasted to police, who reportedly found him at home in bed with his boyfriend, of his calmness as he exited the plane, taking his luggage with him. “Oh yes I did! I threw them down first and I went down after,” he is reported to have told police. Sporting a cut on his forehead from the fallen overhead baggage, a smirking Mr Slater today refused to speak as he was led handcuffed by police from New York's Port Authority Police Headquarters. JetBlue said in a statement that none of the flight's passengers were in danger during the drama. “At this time, we are working with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to investigate this incident. At no time was the security or safety of our customers at risk,” it said. |
