Datin Seri Amar Gustel Agustes Reis. Germanian.. maybe jews.
Datuk Seri Amar DiRaja Rahman Andak
Dorang berkahwin di Istana Ungku Abdul Majid, adik HH Albert Baker.... di Kesington London pada 12 June 1895.. mereka dikurniakan 3 orang anak lelaki.. Walter Abd. Rahman, Henry Abd. Rahman, dan Mansur Abd. Rahman..
They happily live ever after..
EARLY LIFE
TACTICIAN
He's tactical movement over political disputes selalu membuatkan British terkedu..
Over 31 years berkhidmat.. sejak tahun 1878... he managed to keeps British at bay, leaving Johore untouchable for over 31 years of chess games.. sepanjang 31 tahun jugak, he managed to outmanouvering the brilliant british ambition.. over johore state.
Amongst those, dia jugak lah yang bertanggungjawab :
- Anglo Johor Treaty 1885
- Thwarf cubaan British.. merumikan tulisan jawi dalam pentadbiran negeri
TRAGIC LIFE OF DATO' SERI AMAR
ONCE UPON TIME IN LONDON
Unknown to us...
Then.. pada satu hari.. tahun 1929.. :
SAD DEPARTURE
2 tahun selepas 'pengampunan' itu.. pada pagi 10 September 1931, Dato' Seri Amar DiRaja meninggal dunia.. dan dikebumikan di Muslim Cemetary of Brookwood in Surrey. Pemergian beliau hanya ditemani isteri... dan anak2 nya..
Selama 35 tahun, hidup susah senang bersama Dato' Amar.. semasa dia berpangkat, dan semasa dia dalam buangan..
... lonely, lost and brokenhearted..
AL-FATIHAH.... |

Sampai hari ni aku pelik kenapalah sultan Abu Bakar ikut cakap british untuk buang negeri wal hal rakyat dia menentang british.
FIY.. bukan HH Albert Baker yang buang dia.. tapi HH Ibrahim..sebab kes FMS Railways...
Dato' Amar ni pemangkku sultan klu sultan takde.... but somehow, dia suke bertindak sendirian dlm ape2 keputusan... dlm kes FMS Railways ni.. dia tak sokong pembinaan FMS Railways.. tapi, pembesar lain dan Sultan sokong.. so dia override keputusan Johore Councillors..
Thus make dia tak dapat sokongan kebanyakan pembesar sendiri.. and HH Ibrahim pun nak taknak bagi dia bersara awal dengan tugas baru.. |

Sedih bila masa Datuk Amar dan Datin Amar meninggal dunia maka anak-anak beliau dijaga oleh keluarga inggris Datin Amar, mungkin anak-anak beliau mendapat pampasan seperti mana Datu Amar mendapat wang pampasan Pound 1,000 setahun oleh Sultan Ibrahim selepas penamatan beliau sebagai TMB Johore pada masa itu. |

Tracing a special relationship
2009/01/21
My article on Datuk Seri Amar DiRaja Abdul Rahman Andak, Johor’s first state secretary, in November has stirred some interest.
DATUK SERI AMAR DIRAJA ABDUL RAHMAN ANDAK: Johor’s first state secretary and the man who warned the Sultan of Johor about British intentions in the peninsula.
HONOURING HIS MEMORY: A road was named after Datuk Seri Amar DiRaja Abdul Rahman Andak.
THE BERGER FAMILY: (from left: Kerry, Rie, Leslie, Joyce (passed away in May 2008), Yuuki Jae and Faith Felt (Joyce’s elder sister).
A blood relative of the late Rahman’s wife Gustel Auguste Reis wants to get in touch with his Malaysian cousins.
Kerry Berger, who is the associate director of Synovate Motoreseach, is an American based in Thailand. His great grandfather, Karl Kirchberger had married Gustel’s sister Emma.
“I have been to the Royal Abu Bakar Museum in 2002 and seen the photograph of my great granduncle, Rahman Andak.
“I think it is fascinating to know that I’m related to the man who warned the Sultan of Johor about British intentions in the peninsula and found himself exiled to London on a stipend for the remainder of his life,” Kerry wrote in his email from Thailand last Wednesday.
During that visit, he had the opportunity of meeting his distant Malaysian cousins.
One of the people he met was named Aini Abdulah, who he believed was attached to the then prime minister’s office.
He also remembered meeting one of Aini’s uncles, who was the head of a major construction company in Kuala Lumpur and was formerly the chairman of a major US Fortune 500 firm in Kuala Lumpur.
Kerry and his wife, Rie Ito, who is Japanese, are planning a trip to Kuala Lumpur in March. He plans to take Rie to the Royal Abu Bakar Museum and show her Rahman’s picture which is displayed there.
“I was wondering if it might be possible for you to locate Aini Abdullah or her uncle to see if they would be interested in re-establishing contacts and meeting my wife and me?” he asked, adding that his father, Leslie, may also fly from Honolulu to visit as well if he can re-establish contacts with his cousins.
“I feel it is extremely special that we share in both of our extended families a major Malaysian historical hero.
“As a US citizen, a country that was also a former colony of Great Britain, it means a great deal to me to know more about Rahman and how he tried to warn and prevent the rapid colonisation of Malaya, as well as what precipitated his downfall from power, the exile, and what transpired in his life in London,” he said.
Kerry said his family possessed photographs of both Gustel and Rahman with Karl.
“I will try to locate copies of photographs I have on a portable hard drive as well as photographs of gifts that were bestowed on our family by the Sultan of Johor, since it is my understanding that my great grandfather, Karl, had a business partner in Singapore.
“My grandfather and grandmother, Oscar and Vera Kirchberger, lived in Singapore during the 1920s, and there had been a relationship with the sultan at the time,” he said.
The Berger family, he said, “desires another reunion opportunity to strengthen our family bonds and to share information and photographs we have about our cousin, Rahman Andak”.
I also received a comment on my blog on Rahman from Iza-Zulkifli, who gave added information on this great man whom she had always admired.
According to her, Rahman’s three boys were named Murad, Mansor (who passed away earlier than Rahman) and Maarof.
Rahman was buried at the Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey, about 40km south of London.
On his tombstone was an inscription, “In loving memory of our father Datuk Abdul Rahman Andak, CMG who died on Sept 10, 1930 and our mother Auguste Rahman who died on March 30th, 1933”. His state awards, the “Dato’ Seri Paduka Mahkota Johor” (SPMJ) and “Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Johor” (DPMJ), were not even inscribed on his tombstone.
According to Iza-Zulkifli, Rahman’s house called “Seri Lalang” was given to the then ruler, Sultan Ibrahim, to be turned into Istana Mastika Embun. It was the palace for the sultan’s sister, Tengku Ampuan Besar Mariam.
After that, it was wakaf (the granting or dedication of property in trust for a pious purpose) to Tan Sri Zainun Munshi Sulaiman or Ibu Zain, mother of columnist and novelist Adibah Amin, to be turned into the Kolej Tunku Ampuan Mariam, which still exists until today.
Besides a road, two schools were named after Abdul Rahman namely SM Datuk Sri Amar Diraja, Muar dan SM Datuk Abdul Rahman Andak in Simpang Renggam, Kluang. |
