Ya. For your info, Overseas Chinese live well outside China. Whether they live in The US, Taiwan, Canada, Singapore, Thailand. Indonesia, The Philippines, Australia etc. You name it. |

Though the Asian survey situates Malaysia as having a comparatively “low to
medium rate of suicide”, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has forecast that in the next
10 to 15 years suicide will emerge as the second highest cause of death in Malaysia, after
cardiovascular disease. It has recorded a marked increase in suicides and attempted suicides
in the 16-25 age group. The National Statistics Department quoted figures as low as one to
two people per 100,000 each year of suicide cases, but independent researchers basing
findings on police and coroners reports differ in the figures. The country‟s leading researcher
on this issue Prof Dr T. Maniam of the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine,
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia) in 2006 found about 13
Malaysians in 100,000 have killed themselves, as opposed to eight in the 1980s and added
that these figures were just an estimate and could actually be higher.
