It happened many times, says Saiful

KUALA LUMPUR: Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan claimed that he was sodomised by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim many times before June 26, 2008 – both in the country and in places like Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong.
The 25-year-old denied that he was first sodomised by the Opposition Leader at the Desa Damansara condominium on June 26, 2008, as reported by online news portal Malaysiakini on Aug 15, 2008.
When Anwar’s lead counsel Karpal Singh suggested that he was “a big liar” as he had told Malaysiakini that the incident had been the first sodomy act, Mohd Saiful said: “I disagree.”
The star witness in the sodomy trial told the High Court yesterday that he informed a senior police officer – ACP Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof (now SAC I Datuk) – that he was sodomised by Anwar several times in the country and abroad.
Shown a printout of the report, Mohd Saiful said while he had told the reporter that he was sodomised by Anwar for the first time, he maintained that this was because he had misinterpreted the question.
He, however, agreed that he did not take steps to rectify the mistake in the report.
Asked if he was a strong supporter of Umno, Mohd Saiful said: “I support Barisan Nasional but my vote was for (Pakatan Rakyat’s) R. Sivarasa and Eliz­abeth Wong in the last general election.”
Earlier, Mohd Saiful testified that he did not wash his anus after he was allegedly sodomised by Anwar as he wanted to “keep the evidence”.
Mohd Saiful said he only rinsed himself.
On why he did not lodge a police report after the alleged incident, Mohd Saiful said he wanted to seek advice from several people before doing so.
“I want to get advice as it involved my dignity,” he said.
He said he wanted to get advice from his uncle Tuah Mohd Halim, his friend Rahimi Osman, former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Noor, one Datuk Mumtaz (Jaafar) and a religious teacher on the matter.
He did not reply when asked why he did not go to the police station and give an immediate statement. Mohd Saiful lodged a police report on June 28, 2008.
Earlier, High Court judge Justice Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah dismissed an application by the defence for a stay of proceedings after the court dismissed a request by the defence to get Mohd Saiful’s written statements. An appeal on the matter is pending.
Justice Mohamad Zabidin ruled that there was no special circumstances to warrant a stay.
The sodomy trial was later held in camera at the request of Karpal.
The hearing will resume on May 31. |
