Ken Nee, Mun Yee ketuai cabaran

Swimming: Erika wins ninth gold medal after second day of MSSM meet
By LOGANATH VELLOO
ALOR STAR: Sarawakian Erika Kong won another five gold medals in the national schools (MSSM) swimming championships at the Gunung Keriang Aquatics Complex here yesterday to add to the four she won on Monday.
And after the completion of nine individual events in the girls' Under-12 competition, Erika has set an astonishing precedence by being the only swimmer to occupy the top step of the podium.
But the 12-year-old student of SJKC Chung Hwa 3 Kuching will only be satisfied after completing a perfect 10 with victory in the 50m freestyle today.
Erika showed signs of becoming a swimming star in the country with her comfort in competing in all four swimming disciplines. She won the 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley races yesterday.
En route to the clean sweep on the second day of the competition, she also broke a second meet record |

kalu 1k ko buat dlm 20 minit, itu dikira laju gak ler. ako maintain kan 100m 2 min.. kalu cpt sgt.. ako slow sket.. ako swim kat UKM ada, UNITEN ada.. tu ah.. skang baru nk start training jarak jauh ni.. nk masuk swimathon kata kan.. borang dah amik dah.. cuma tak anto je lagi ni..
kekadang buat 500m je.. bawah 10 min ler.. bila ntah nk start jarak jauh ni..
nk join ako ker.. jom ler.. kite buat kat uniten ari senin.. sebab uniten kurang sket org.. amacamm.. mau ka..
ako ajak karambunai skali ler.. dia pun makin rajin ako tgk..
1.5k dlm 38min aritu.. dia buat.. last selasa dia buat 2k 48 min.. oker ler tu.. itu pun waktu pool penuh.. kalu tak lagi laju tu..
dulu dia pun tak leh gi jauh sangat.. pastu ako ajo teknik utk jarak jauh ler..
sbb jarak jauh teknik dia tak sama ngan jarak dekat..
more releks n mental mau kuat ler..

American swimmers hunker down outside Melbourne awaiting world meet
GEELONG, Australia (AP): On a cool, windy morning, a mustachioed Michael Phelps and his American teammates churned practice laps in a pool near a stadium where workers were busy setting up for an Australian Rules football exhibition Saturday.
When he was done, Phelps climbed out, dried off and faced a clutch of Australian reporters who grilled him about his love of poker and his English bulldog, Herman.
"They tried to wring every little ounce about it out of me,'' he said.
The Americans, along with the Dutch and Italian teams, are spending the week training at low-key Kardinia Park in the city an hour's train ride from Melbourne, where the world championships began Saturday with synchronized swimming preliminaries.
The eight-day swimming competition opens March 25 at Rod Laver Arena, home to tennis' Australian Open.
"I can't believe the enthusiasm this country has for the sport of swimming,'' said breaststroker Brendan Hansen, a first-time visitor. "I've just been feeding off that.
From what I've heard, Melbourne is going to be a rock show.''
For now, though, the waiting is the hardest part.
"We're getting lots of rest and relaxing, but you do start to go kind of crazy,'' said Natalie Coughlin, who will swim four individual events and possibly three relays. "You have all this built-up energy, but yet you have to save it.''
Phelps planned to catch a movie later Saturday with some of his teammates, and maybe flip through pictures of him and Herman stored on his digital camera. It's his first extended time away from the bulldog he got last year as a gift from his agent.
"I miss the little guy, that's for sure,'' Phelps said, grinning. "I'll be spending almost a month away from him. Hopefully, he'll remember me when I get home.''
Sleep was a major priority for much of the team, although several swimmers said they were now snoozing through the night after struggling the first two days with the 18-hour time difference to the U.S. West Coast.
Coughlin said she was "bored out of my mind laying in my hotel room.''
"The beach is right across the street, but there's only so much you can do when you're trying to rest,'' she said. "I had to go to the bookstore I was so bored.''
Kate Ziegler, an 18-year-old shopping fiend, hoped to rally a couple of her teammates for a trip to Target. Informed that a lower-priced collection by designer Stella McCartney was being featured, Ziegler responded, "Oh, cool.''
Hansen was hoping for a chance to explore Geelong on foot.
"There's only so many DVDs you can watch,'' he said. "How often do you get to come to Australia?''
A couple hours after the American team ended its first two-hour training session of the day, the pool deck was clogged with kids competing in a youth meet.
Kardinia Park is home to a cricket ground and Skilled Stadium, where the Geelong Cats faced the Melbourne Demons in a footy exhibition Saturday.
"I watched 35 minutes of cricket last night and couldn't figure it out,'' Hansen said.
When they're not dozing, the Americans will hold two daily workouts and have team meetings over the next week.
"Their main role here is to just kind of get settled, rested and focused,'' U.S. women's head coach John Collins said. "The ingredients are there for a great meet and we'll just see who shows up. The major players are well prepared.'' |
