Dubious Seasonings Seize In Restaurants Two Eateries In Kg Pandan Targeted
By Liza Mohd
Kuala Bealit - The Halal and Haram Unit Religious Department this week confiscated dubious seasonings used by two restaurants in Kampong Pandan, Belait, during a joint operation headed by the Belait Municipal Enforcement Unit. The flavourings will be sent to a lab for more tests.
Both restaurants had also failed to produce receipts of meat purchases. Enforcement officials from the Belait Immigration and Registration Department as well as the Belait Labour Department were also involved in the inspection.
The surprise inspection was also to review the restaurants' cleanliness and to ensure that foreign workers do no misuse their work pass.
According to the Labour Department, the business licence holders of the restaurants were Muslims. However, the cooks were nonMuslims. This matter will be referred to higher authorities.
The Belait Municipal- Department, meanwhile, found that the restaurants had failed to properly store fresh food in refrigerators. Inspectors also noted that the floors in the kitchens were slippery. Municipal Enforcement officials also issued special passes to five foreigners from Malaysia and Thailand who were suspected of misusing their employment pass.
Some 17 officials were involved in the two-hour operation codenamed "Ops Bandaran 2", which was aimed at ensuring that non-halal items are not served to Muslims. The head of Enforcement Unit said that similar joint operations would be carried out continuously to weed out illegal activities around commercial areas.
Members of the public can call the hotline 3330789 during office hours to report any irregularities. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin

Toyota, Hyundai, Suzuki lead pack
Debbie Too
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
06-Apr-07
TOYOTA, Hyundai and Suzuki continued to be the top players in the sultanate's automotive market last month.
Toyota sold 350 units last month, followed by Hyundai with 114 units and Suzuki with 113.
All three car brands were also topped in sales in the first three months of the year.
Toyota's sales for January, February and March totalled 990 units, Suzuki, 331 units and Hyundai, 294.
Overall, Hyundai proved to be the biggest market climber this year.
Hyundai was ranked second in 2005, but last year it saw a huge slump of 52.4 per cent as it sold 979 units less as compared to the previous year.
The slump led to Hyundai's market share dropping from 12.6 per cent in 2005 to seven per cent last year.
This year however, Hyundai sales in the first quarter showed it is picking up from 2005 levels. For the first quarter this year, Hyundai held on to the third position selling 294 units.
In the case of Suzuki, its market share doubled last year from 2005.
"Our most popular model is the Suzuki Swift," said Lim Jin Lee, marketing executive of Boustead Sdn Bhd, distributor of both Suzuki and Nissan.
Suzuki's market share was 4.6 per cent in 2005, rising to 8.6 per cent. Its sales soared 57.5 per cent last year from 2005.

Giants killers aiming for Super League title
Juli Suharni Jaafar
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
06-Apr-07
DPMM FC closed in on leaders Kedah at the summit of the Malaysian Super League after a 2-0 win over Selangor at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Wednesday and the Bruneians' head coach Buketa Ranko believes his team can now go all the way to the title.
Killing off the Red Giants has definitely helped boost DPMM's confidence, with Ranko saying they are now aiming for the MSL title.
"Before the season started, I promised to ensure DPMM's survival in the MSL. We only need three more points to stay in the MSL next season. We've almost achieved our target and now, I think, we are ready to challenge for the title ... to fight it out with the big teams Perak, Perlis and Kedah," Ranko said yesterday.
Looking back to the Selangor match the Croat thinks there is room for improvement, but is full of praises for his boys. "We wasted a lot of chances against Selangor, but the most important thing is we took all three points. I'm very happy. Selangor is a big team, the most successful side in Malaysia and it's not easy to beat them. But we managed to do that ... with our limited pool of players. I have to congratulate the boys for a job well done," said Ranko.
"This is our first year in the MSL and most of our players are inexperienced, yet we only have two defeats in 15 matches. That is a tremendous achievement.""The players give their best in all the matches and as a result we are now second in the MSL table above Malaysia's top teams like Perak and Perlis," said the the 49-year-old Croat.
"Both Shahrazen (Md Said) and (Atilio) Cacares should have been more accurate, but we won. That is more important."
MSL top scorer Shahrazen opened the scoring for DPMM in the 47th minute after a mistake in the Selangor defence.
DPMM skipper Rosmin Khamis' cross was miskicked by a Selangor defender and Shahrazen leapt to put a header past Selangor goalkeeper Md Anis Faron for a 1-0 lead.
The Bruneians got a bonus when Selangor's Zaizar Zainal Abidin, who was desperate to clear the ball with Shahrazen closing in, thumped in an own goal in the 63rd minute.
In Petra Jaya, Sarawak did their Borneo neighbours a favour when they held Kedah to a 1-1 draw at the State Stadium, which left the leaders just one point ahead of DPMM.
Bottom-placed Sarawak took the game to Kedah and were gifted the lead almost from the kick-off through Robert Eshun. Still searching for their first win in the MSL, Sarawak then crumbled to allow Kedah a 44th minute equaliser through Shafiq Jamal.
DPMM travel to fourth-placed Perlis on Saturday. The Brunei Times

kalau kereta baru, kalau urg kan bunuh diri by carbon monoxide poisoning, they would have to connect a pipe from the exhaust to the inside of the car.....
or they lock themselves in the car in a closed garage......
they died of lack of oxygen to the brain. biasa nya red blood cells yang transport oxygen to the rest of our body. but carbon monoxide binds to blood cells better than oxygen.......
the thing is, you just feel drowsy and sleepy and die in your sleep.....
