A would-be robber was apprehended and beaten up by the public after he tried to force a man to surrender his valuables at knife-point yesterday.
The incident happened around 12.15am at the parking area of a commercial centre at Mile 4 Penrissen Road when a 29-year-old coffee shop worker felt a knife being pressed against his neck as he was about to enter his car.
The victim told the police that the suspect demanded for his belongings, but that he had put up a fight and was able to apprehend the suspect with the assistance of several members of the public who had responded to his shouts for help.
The 25-year-old suspect was given a dose of street justice by those at the scene before he was handed over to the police, who brought him to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment before detaining him in the lock up pending further investigation.
