Court throws out PKR's suit on nullifying GE13 results

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today threw out PKR's suit that sought to nullify the 13th General Elections (GE13) results due to alleged campaign violation linked to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue.


Judicial Commissioner Datuk Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab struck out the suit that claimed among others that 1MDB monies were criminally-used as campaign funds. Zaki ruled among others that the present court has no power to make any declaration on the validity of GE13 results as only the Election Court has the power to do so.


He also said the court had no jurisdiction to make rulings of a criminal nature, which was sought by the suit. Zaki ordered the plaintiffs - PKR, former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his daughter Lembah Pantai member of parliament (MP) Nurul Izzah Anwar, Batu MP Tian Chua, former PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Parti Amanah Negara member Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad - to bear the total cost of RM50,000 to the four defendants.


The four defendants were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, 1MDB and the Election Commission (EC), who all had sought to strike out the suit.


After proceedings today, Counsel Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun - who acted for Najib and Tengku Adnan - expressed hope that the verdict would put the 1MDB issue to rest.


On the other hand, Nurul Izzah said that they would discuss with all PKR leaders on whether to appeal the decision. Counsel Tommy Thomas acted for all the plaintiffs, who filed the suit on Aug 12 last year. Counsel Datuk Tan Hock Chuan represented 1MDB while senior federal counsel Amarjeet Singh and Azizan Md Arshad acted for the EC.

Tu la pasal. Sepanjang2 ni apa agaknya yg diorg buat kat kawasan yg diorg menang tu. Disaat ekonomi negara terumbang ambing, apalah salahnya berganding bahu dgn kerajaan utk usaha tambah pendapatan kerajaan. Bukan utk org lain pun, utk negara jgk. Ai dah bosan la dgn isu yg pembangkang asyik bisingkan. Instead of condemning, kali ni sama2 la berganding bahu.
