The scene that was deemed controversial
PETALING JAYA: The director of the Malay Regiment will abide by the Communication and Multimedia Minister’s request to remove a scene from its trailer that is considered disparaging to DAP.
Datuk Jurey Latiff Rosli said the said scene was only included in the trailer and not in the actual movie.
“We will abide by the minister’s request. I am very loyal to the country. Whatever is for the good of Malaysians, I will abide by it,” said Jurey, who is also the producer of the movie.
Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak was reported to have said that he ordered the creators of the movie to remove the scene, which were considered to be disparaging to DAP.
He said that once he checked the trailer, he found the scene to be inappropriate and ordered it to be removed.
The scene, depicts a man standing near the Parliament building outside his car which has a number plate "DAP165"
The man is holding a book “How to Rule the Country” while a voice over in Chinese says "We don't need war. We just need to use our brains to rule the economy".
The DAP165 is considered to be a play on the word DAPIGS, a term commonly used to disparage DAP.
Asked about the licence plate, Jurey said that there was no ulterior message behind it.
“As artists we have our ways of making our art. The language of film is subjective. If you think it’s negative it will be negative. If you think its positive, it will be positive,” he said, adding that the movie was for all Malaysians.
The movie which opens on Aug 31 is about three children who want to learn about the sacrifices of their grandfathers who served in the Malay Regiment against the communists in 1976.
