The riddle of the recurring digits 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 –– the source of much fan fascination and debate since they popped up on Hurley’s winning lottery ticket in season 1 –– was solved Tuesday when Locke Monster (Terry O’Quinn) informed Sawyer (Josh Holloway) that the numbers are why Lost’s characters are on the island: Certain members of Oceanic 815 are on a numbered list of “candidates” to take over Jacob’s role as the island’s “protector.” If the mysterious authority figure wore shoes, those would seem to be some big ones to fill.
So who made the cut? Here’s the rundown:
4: Locke
8: Hurley
15: Sawyer
16: Sayid
23: Jack
42: Sun/Jin
Listed only by last name, it’s too soon to tell which “Kwon” — Sun or Jin — Jacob was referring to when he scrawled the couple’s moniker on the inside of a cave in some sort of permanent super chalk. He did touch both at their wedding. (Of course, he also laid his magic hands on lead heroine Kate, and her name was notably absent.)

Cerita kat alternate timeline nampak macam kesudahannya ada harapan sama macam timeline island:
-Locke maybe akan end up jumpa Jack and Jack akan operate Locke so that boleh jalan semula (similar to timeline island yang tiba2 Locke terus boleh jalan semula secara magic).
-And Kate pulak, since Kate dah berkawan dengan Claire kat alternate timeline entah2 lepas Claire bersalin, tup2 something happened to Claire (macam kat island tiba2 je Claire hilang) and Kate terpaksa take over jaga Aaron. Same old same old. Cuma cara cerita berbeza, end result sama. Oh and also, Ethan masa kat island duk culik Claire and cucuk2 needles kat perut dia, entah2 memang untuk selamatkan Aaron. Macam masa kat alternate timeline sama jugak, cuma berlaku dengan cara yang normal la, Ethan as doctor, and mintak kebenaran Claire dulu.
-Hurley pulak, kat island memang dia selalu bertuah, kena tangkap dengan others pun boleh lepas. And kat alternate timeline Hurley memang bertuah juga jadi kaya raya, and at the same time masih cheerful dengan orang2 keliling dia. Cuma yang berbezanya Hurley ni nasib dia pre-flight815, berubah2. Instead of unlucky lepas lottery tu, dia jadi lucky. Rasanya yang lain2 nasib diorg exactly sama je before the flight, cuma nasib Hurley je before flight berubah2 untuk kedua2 timeline.
Maybe semua ni adalah experiment Jacob untuk nak buktikan yang destiny tak boleh diubah no matter how hard we try to avoid it. Bak kata Jacob, end result adalah yang penting, everything before that is "just progress". So end result semua sama, no matter what timeline. |
